Job Overview: The National UN Volunteer will play a crucial role in supporting UNICEF's mission in Rwanda, particularly in the education sector. The volunteer will also contribute to the sustainability of the Giga initiative, which aims to improve internet access in schools, and will be responsible for documenting lessons learned and best practices in the implementation of digital learning initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The volunteer's duties will include supporting school connectivity efforts by monitoring internet status in schools, coordinating with government entities on data validation, and tracking connectivity performance trends. Additionally, the volunteer will assist in the design and implementation of EdTech programs, providing technical input on the use of digital tools for foundational learning. Responsibilities also encompass supporting teacher training on digital tool integration, ensuring effective management of devices, and monitoring the quality of EdTech implementation. The volunteer will contribute to knowledge management by consolidating findings and preparing reports, as well as engaging with public and private sector partners to enhance visibility and collaboration in digital learning initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong technical skills in education technology and digital learning, with a solid understanding of the Rwandan education system. They should demonstrate excellent communication and coordination abilities, as well as a commitment to promoting equity in education. Familiarity with data management and monitoring tools is essential, along with the capacity to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in education, information technology, or a related field is required. Experience: The position requires a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in education, technology integration, or program coordination. Experience working with government entities or international organizations in the education sector is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of successfully implementing educational programs or initiatives, particularly those focused on digital learning and technology.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within UNICEF and with partners. Proficiency in Kinyarwanda is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities. Knowledge of French or other languages may be considered an advantage, particularly in engaging with diverse partners.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position with a focus on supporting UNICEF's educational initiatives in Rwanda. The role is full-time and may require flexibility in working hours to accommodate the needs of schools and partners. UN Volunteers receive a Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (MVLA) to cover basic living expenses, ensuring that they can maintain a secure standard of living while fulfilling their duties. The MVLA is not considered a salary but rather a support mechanism to enable volunteers to focus on their work without financial burdens.
