This position is based in the southeastern United States, specifically in states such as North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, or Alabama. The Deputy Director will oversee the technical and operational management of a multi-state research center, ensuring that research activities are well-coordinated, timely, and aligned with the organization's goals. The role requires strong leadership and communication skills to manage partnerships, projects, and staff effectively. The Deputy Director will also play a key role in ensuring that the research conducted is responsive to the needs of stakeholders and contributes to the overall mission of FHI 360.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Deputy Director will be responsible for a variety of key functions, including:
Project & Partnership Coordination: Overseeing and coordinating research partnerships and projects across the southern region, ensuring effective communication among technical teams, partners, and subcontractors.
Operational Management: Managing day-to-day center operations, tracking deliverables, milestones, and reporting requirements, and preparing annual work plans and monthly reports.
Technical Leadership: Providing technical guidance on project implementation and stakeholder engagement, reviewing research products for quality and usability.
Federal Coordination & Communications: Participating in meetings with federal partners and representing FHI 360 in stakeholder meetings and conferences.
Staff Supervision & Team Leadership: Supervising project staff and consultants, supporting onboarding and mentoring, and fostering collaboration across distributed teams.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree (PhD preferred) in education, public policy, social sciences, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 8 years of experience in supporting education research, technical assistance, or education systems strengthening initiatives is required. Candidates should have experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders and workstreams, as well as demonstrated experience in coordinating education-focused technical assistance or research activities. Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills are essential, along with experience working with state education agencies (SEAs), local education agencies (LEAs), or other education stakeholders.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in a relevant field such as education, public policy, social sciences, or a related discipline. A PhD is preferred, indicating a higher level of expertise and knowledge in the field.
