Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is situated within the Global Report and Analytics Section (GRAS) of UN-Habitat. The intern will report directly to the Chief of the Section and will be involved in significant activities related to monitoring and reporting on urban conditions and trends. This role is crucial for the formulation and effective implementation of urban policies, particularly through the flagship World Cities Report (WCR). The WCR is mandated by the UN General Assembly and plays a vital role in assessing urban conditions, tracking progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and synthesizing information to aid stakeholders in formulating effective urban policies. The intern will contribute to the section's work by supporting various activities, including organizing project materials, synthesizing reports, assisting in event organization, and conducting research and analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting the systematic organization of World Cities Report (WCR) project materials for easy reference and knowledge-sharing.
  • Reviewing reports and proceedings from the World Urban Forum (WUF13) to synthesize key discussions relevant to the WCR 202
  • Assisting in the organization of internal and external post-launch events, including developing background materials and writing reports.
  • Ensuring accuracy and consistency of information and referenced sources across WCR post-launch reports.
  • Conducting desktop research to track the impact of WCR202
  • Assisting in literature reviews, data collection, and qualitative/quantitative analysis for the conceptualization of WCR202
  • Providing flexible and ad hoc support as required by the supervisor.
  • Collaborating with team members on other assignments necessary to support the implementation of the section's work programme.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Additionally, candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite. A keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. Programme, or having completed such a programme. Preferred areas of study include Urban Studies, Urban Planning, Geography, Economics, Development Studies, or closely related disciplines. Proficiency in research methodologies, data collection, and analysis, as well as familiarity with project management tools, is desirable.

Experience:
While applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience, it is essential that their field of study is closely related to the internship they are applying for. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical and critical thinking skills, as well as a detail-oriented approach and eagerness to learn and contribute to research projects.

Languages:
For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
