Job Overview: The Interpreter position within the Arabic Interpretation Unit at UNON is a vital role that requires a high level of professionalism and expertise in interpretation. Duties and Responsibilities: The Interpreter will be responsible for the following duties:
Provide interpretation services for up to eight meetings per week, ensuring accurate translation of speeches and statements from English and French into Arabic and vice versa.
Cover sensitive meetings, demonstrating professionalism and discretion in handling confidential information.
Function as a team leader for interpreters assigned to specific meetings, coordinating efforts and ensuring high-quality interpretation.
Serve as Team Leader on missions as required, overseeing interpretation services in various settings.
Assist in the screening, training, and examining of prospective Arabic interpreters, contributing to the development of the interpretation team.
Provide guidance and coaching to junior interpreters, fostering their professional growth and skill development.
May perform additional related duties as required, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in meeting the needs of the organization.

Experience in providing accurate interpretation on a broad range of UN subjects is desirable, as it demonstrates familiarity with the topics and terminology commonly addressed in UN meetings. Additionally, experience in training and coaching interpreter trainees and junior staff interpreters is beneficial, as it contributes to the overall development of the interpretation team. Experience in grading interpretation exams and assessing the performance of freelance colleagues is also desirable, as it reflects a comprehensive understanding of the standards expected in interpretation services.
