Job Overview: The consultant position is focused on supporting the Mitigation Branch and UNEP India Office in accelerating the adoption of passive cooling solutions in India. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, including government entities, public sector undertakings, private players, and academia, to promote and implement passive cooling strategies in real estate projects. The consultant will work closely with the Cities Unit of the Mitigation Branch within UNEP's Climate Change Division, providing technical support and expertise in integrating passive cooling solutions into building designs. The position is home-based, allowing for flexibility while engaging with stakeholders across India.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for a range of tasks, including but not limited to:
Providing technical assistance to real estate developers in the design and implementation of passive cooling solutions.
Conducting building energy analysis and cost-benefit assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of proposed cooling strategies.
Engaging with building developers and real estate associations to advocate for energy efficiency and heat adaptation measures.
Collaborating with the UNEP India Office and other stakeholders to facilitate knowledge exchange and joint action towards efficient and climate-friendly cooling solutions.
Contributing to the development of guidelines and best practices for passive cooling in buildings.
Participating in meetings and workshops to promote the Cool Coalition's objectives and initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of five years of relevant experience, particularly in providing design assistance to real estate developers focused on sustainable and energy-efficient building practices. Essential qualifications include expertise in building energy analysis, cost-benefit analysis, and experience in advocating for energy efficiency and heat adaptation within the real estate sector. The qualifications are calculated from the date of obtaining the first level university degree recognized by the United Nations.
Educational Background: A first-level university degree in a relevant field, such as architecture, environmental science, or engineering, is required for this position. Advanced degrees or specialized training in sustainable building practices or energy efficiency will be considered an asset.
Experience: The position requires at least five years of professional experience in a relevant field, with a strong emphasis on sustainable building design and energy efficiency. Experience working with real estate developers and engaging in advocacy for energy-efficient practices is crucial for success in this role.
Languages: Fluency in written and oral English is mandatory for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Proficiency in French is also beneficial, as it is another working language within the organization.
