Known for its rigorous investigations and incisive reporting, HRW has been instrumental in advocating for human rights changes across the globe. The organization operates in numerous countries and employs a diverse team of professionals dedicated to promoting and protecting human rights. HRW's mission is to ensure that the rights of individuals are respected and upheld, and it actively engages in campaigns that raise awareness and drive policy changes. The organization values diversity and inclusion, striving to create a workplace that reflects the communities it serves.

Job Overview:
The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is currently seeking a student intern for its Paris office. This internship is designed for students who are eager to gain practical experience in a dynamic and impactful environment. The ideal candidate will be available full-time, committing to 35 hours per week for a duration of six months, starting from September 2026 through February 2027, with some flexibility in dates. The intern will work closely with the Development team, particularly with the Associate Director and the Coordinator, to support various fundraising and outreach initiatives. This role provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the inner workings of a major international non-profit organization and to contribute to meaningful projects that support human rights advocacy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be involved in a variety of tasks that are essential to the functioning of the Development and Outreach Department. Key responsibilities include: assisting in the preparation and organization of fundraising events such as the annual fundraising dinner and donor meetings; conducting research to identify potential donors; maintaining and updating database records and documents; drafting correspondence and other materials related to donor outreach; creating promotional materials and managing mailings; collaborating with the team on the management of the fundraising database; and translating documents between English and French. This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in event planning, donor relations, and database management, all while working under the guidance of experienced professionals in the field.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should be pursuing a Master's degree in Management, Event Management, Communication, or a related field. A perfect command of French, both oral and written, is required, along with advanced proficiency in English. Previous experience in a non-profit organization or international setting is highly desirable and will be considered an asset. The ideal candidate will be well-organized, motivated, and reliable, with a strong interest in human rights issues. Applicants must also possess valid work authorization in France for the duration of the internship.

Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to be enrolled in a Master's degree program, preferably in fields such as Management, Event Management, Communication, or similar disciplines. This educational background will provide the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills that can be applied in a practical setting during the internship.

Experience:
While prior experience in a non-profit organization is not mandatory, it is highly valued. Candidates with experience in volunteer work, internships, or any relevant roles that demonstrate an understanding of the non-profit sector and human rights advocacy will be preferred. Additionally, any international experience or exposure to diverse cultures will enhance a candidate's application.

Languages:
Fluency in French (both spoken and written) is mandatory for this position, as the intern will be required to communicate effectively with local stakeholders and assist in translation tasks. Advanced English skills are also required, as the intern will be working with English-speaking colleagues and documents. Knowledge of additional languages would be considered a plus, enhancing the intern's ability to engage with a broader audience.

Additional Notes:
The internship is a full-time position, requiring a commitment of 35 hours per week for a period of six months. Compensation for the internship will be in accordance with local laws and HRW policies, with interns in France receiving EUR 5.50 per hour for their time in the office. Additionally, HRW will reimburse 50% of the intern's transportation costs. This internship may also allow students to earn academic credit, as it provides direct exposure to the operations of an international human rights organization. Candidates are encouraged to check with their educational institutions regarding eligibility for academic credit. The application process requires candidates to submit a CV and cover letter in French through HRW's online recruitment portal, and only complete applications will be considered. HRW is committed to diversity and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds.
