Job Overview:
The position of UNESCO Consultant for the Diversity of Cultural Expressions is focused on promoting the diversity of cultural expressions and enhancing the creative economy as essential components of sustainable development. The consultant will be responsible for coordinating and implementing projects funded by the Swedish National Commission for UNESCO, ensuring effective collaboration with UNESCO Field Offices and partners. The role involves monitoring and reporting on project progress, preparing communication materials, and contributing to knowledge management on gender equality within the cultural sector. The consultant will also analyze data and develop recommendations for mainstreaming gender equality in cultural policies and programs, thereby supporting the objectives of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake several key assignments, including:
  • Coordination and implementation of projects funded by the Swedish National Commission for UNESCO, which involves ensuring timely execution, conducting follow-up meetings, preparing progress reports, and developing monitoring tools.
  • Knowledge management on gender equality, which includes preparing analytical reports, drafting recommendations for gender-responsive policies, and contributing to the documentation of evidence and best practices.
  • Deliverables will include an inception report with a detailed workplan, project implementation toolkits, an analytical mapping report on gender equality initiatives, progress reports summarizing activities and challenges, and a final report with recommendations for future projects. The consultant will also be expected to liaise with various stakeholders and facilitate communication regarding project activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree) in a relevant field related to culture. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the cultural sector is required, with at least 3 years of experience at the international level. Strong knowledge and proven expertise in coordinating multilateral cooperation projects, as well as experience in gender equality within cultural and creative industries, are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to synthesize information, interact with diverse partners, and work effectively in multicultural environments.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is an advanced university degree, specifically a Master’s degree, in disciplines related to culture. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of cultural policies and the creative economy, as well as for effectively contributing to the objectives of UNESCO's initiatives.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the field of culture, with at least 3 years of that experience gained at the international level. This experience should encompass work in multilateral cooperation projects and a demonstrated understanding of gender equality issues within the cultural and creative sectors.

Languages:
Candidates must have excellent knowledge of both English and French, including speaking, reading, and writing skills. A good knowledge of the other language is also required.
