Job Overview:
The MSF Diagnostic Imaging Working Group (DIWG) is a vital component of the Diagnostic Network, focusing on the standardization and support of diagnostic imaging tools across MSF projects. The Medical Physicist advisor will be responsible for enhancing the safety and quality of medical imaging services, particularly X-ray and ultrasound, which are critical for patient care. This role involves developing and implementing radiation safety policies, quality assurance processes, and training materials to ensure that imaging services are utilized effectively and safely. The advisor will work closely with various stakeholders to translate the DIWG's mandate into actionable steps that improve access to and the quality of medical imaging in MSF settings.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Medical Physicist advisor will have a range of responsibilities, including providing expert guidance on medical and technical questions related to radiation safety and X-ray equipment quality assurance. This includes collaborating with the DIWG and other stakeholders to develop and monitor radiation safety recommendations and protocols. The advisor will also be tasked with developing quality control strategies for X-ray services, creating resources such as policies and guidelines, and supporting knowledge management initiatives related to X-ray objectives. Additionally, the advisor will participate in the design and pilot of monitoring and evaluation tools for X-ray services, ensuring that data collection and project monitoring are effective and contribute to quality improvement.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an MSc Degree in Physics or Biomedical Engineering, along with a 4-year post-academic specialization as a Medical Physics Expert, which includes certification as a Radiation Protection Expert. A minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar international position within the humanitarian, public, or private sector is required, with MSF or humanitarian experience being highly desirable. Strong planning skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and proficiency in English are essential, while knowledge of French is considered an asset. Candidates should also demonstrate IT literacy, particularly in MS Office (with intermediate to advanced Excel skills), and familiarity with software for dose simulations and imaging software.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have an MSc Degree in Physics or Biomedical Engineering, complemented by a 4-year post-academic specialization as a Medical Physics Expert. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of radiation safety and quality assurance in medical imaging, particularly in challenging humanitarian contexts.

Experience:
The position requires at least 3 years of relevant experience in a similar role, preferably within the humanitarian sector. Experience with quality assurance and control of X-ray equipment, as well as knowledge of radiation safety and compliance, is essential. Candidates should also have experience in drafting and implementing radiation safety policies and protocols, as well as in risk management related to medical imaging.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within MSF. Knowledge of French is desirable and would be beneficial for working in various MSF contexts, particularly in Francophone regions.
