Job Overview:
The internship is part of UNICEF's work in Social and Behavior Change (SBC), which aims to understand and influence how people think, behave, and interact, particularly in the context of girls' empowerment. The intern will work under the supervision of the SBC Specialist – Girls’ Empowerment, contributing to the design, coordination, and documentation of initiatives that support positive shifts in behaviors, attitudes, and social norms. The role involves supporting the development of knowledge and content related to girls' empowerment, monitoring and reporting on program data, facilitating coordination with internal teams and external partners, and providing administrative support to ensure the smooth functioning of the Girls’ Empowerment Unit.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for several key tasks:
  • Supporting knowledge and content development by assisting in the preparation and review of briefing notes, presentations, concept notes, and other materials related to girls’ empowerment.
  • Contributing to monitoring and reporting by organizing program data, drafting summaries, and documenting key insights and lessons learned.
  • Facilitating coordination and collaboration by supporting communication and coordination with internal teams and external partners to ensure alignment of activities.
  • Providing administrative and logistical support by assisting with general operational tasks to support the smooth functioning of the Girls’ Empowerment Unit.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for this internship, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
  • Education: Enrollment in a degree program in an undergraduate or graduate school, or recent graduation (within the last two years).
  • Work Experience: Strong academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in Arabic and proficiency in at least one of UNICEF’s working languages: English, French, or Spanish. Candidates must also have no immediate relatives working in any UNICEF office and must not have relatives in the line of authority to whom the intern will report.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from a degree program at an undergraduate or graduate level. This educational background is essential to ensure that the intern has the necessary theoretical knowledge and understanding of the issues related to social and behavior change, particularly in the context of girls' empowerment.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to demonstrate strong academic performance, which indicates a solid understanding of the relevant subject matter. While prior work experience is not mandatory, any relevant internships or volunteer work in related fields will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic is mandatory, and proficiency in at least one of UNICEF’s working languages (English, French, or Spanish) is required. This linguistic capability is crucial for effective communication within the organization and with external partners.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid, and UNICEF provides a stipend equivalent to 70% of the net monthly salary of GS
  • There is no expectation of employment at the end of the internship. Interns must provide proof of enrollment in a health/accident plan prior to starting their work and must adhere to UNICEF's policies, including a zero-tolerance policy on conduct incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and UNICEF. Interns may take up to 2.5 days off per month for any reason, including medical reasons. The internship is subject to medical clearance and may require compliance with vaccination requirements.
