Job Overview:
The AV Metadata Management Consultant position is designed to enhance the organization and management of audio-visual (AV) assets within the CKMS (Content and Knowledge Management System) of ESCAP. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Librarian and collaborate with colleagues from the Communications and Repository teams. The primary functions of this role include improving the organization of photo and video databases, enhancing metadata for digitized assets, and ensuring proper archiving and preservation of multimedia content. The consultant will also be responsible for training staff on digitization and metadata creation, coordinating AV digitization efforts, and supporting the design of systematic workflows for multimedia asset management. The role requires a proactive approach to ensure that only the most valuable and relevant assets are preserved in alignment with ESCAP's work programme.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will carry out a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including: - Improving the organization and management of CKMS photo and video databases, including file organization and training practices. - Reviewing and updating AV file organization, curation, and archiving policies, procedures, and training manuals. - Coordinating AV digitization and archiving work, enhancing metadata for assets, generating transcriptions for digitized audio files, and upscaling low-resolution photos. - Verifying the integrity of data and files, and digitizing remaining historic assets. - Supporting the design and implementation of a systematic curation workflow for multimedia assets to ensure proper archiving and preservation. - Coordinating with the Communications team to manage newly curated AV assets according to established workflows. - Providing training and ongoing support to relevant staff on digitization and metadata creation. - Exploring options for uploading additional multimedia assets to the ESCAP Repository. - Acting as the point of contact for internal requests for historic AV content. - Assisting with additional digitization, metadata enhancement, and archive and preservation policy tasks as requested. - Performing other duties as assigned, with all materials developed during the consultancy remaining the property of ESCAP.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a first-level university degree in library science, information or records management, information technology, or a related area. Additionally, candidates should have demonstrated experience with metadata management of multimedia assets or closely related work, preferably in the context of an international organization. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams are essential for success in this role.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a first-level university degree in library science, information or records management, information technology, or a related field. This educational background is crucial for understanding the principles of information management and the technical aspects of metadata creation and management.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have relevant experience in metadata management, particularly with multimedia assets. Experience in an international organization or similar environment is preferred, as it provides insight into the unique challenges and requirements of managing AV content in a global context. Familiarity with digitization processes, archiving standards, and multimedia asset management systems will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is the primary working language of ESCAP. Knowledge of another UN official language, such as French or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance communication with diverse stakeholders.
