Job Overview: The Communications and Advocacy Consultant position is a critical role within the Private Sector Partnerships Section (PSP) of UN Women, focusing on enhancing digital communications and advocacy efforts, particularly for the HeForShe initiative. The consultant will be responsible for managing and developing the HeForShe website and social media channels, aiming to increase visibility and engagement with key audiences. This role involves creating compelling digital content, executing digital campaigns, and ensuring consistent messaging across various communications initiatives. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Partnerships Engagement and Special Initiatives Advisor, contributing to the overall mission of promoting gender equality and mobilizing support from individuals and organizations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will have a wide range of responsibilities, including:
Developing communications and advocacy content for HeForShe and related initiatives, ensuring alignment with brand standards.
Drafting and adapting materials on positive masculinities and male allyship for localization by UN Women field offices and partners.
Researching, writing, editing, and publishing engaging content across digital platforms.
Supporting the development of digital and print materials, including email campaigns and visuals.
Reviewing digital content for accuracy and consistency.
Coordinating with UN Women field offices and National Committees to amplify local efforts.
Supporting the development of communications plans and campaign materials for new partnerships.
Creating social media content and digital campaign materials to promote male allyship and gender equality initiatives.
Developing advocacy talking points and messaging materials for key events. 1
Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and campaign delivery.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a Master's degree (or equivalent) in International Politics, International Relations, Communication, Arts, Marketing, or a related field. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree combined with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted. The consultant must possess strong communication skills, both oral and written, and demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with government representatives and stakeholders. Knowledge of the UN system and familiarity with inter-governmental processes are preferred. Proficiency in using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop) is essential, along with strong IT skills and the ability to manage workloads independently while meeting deadlines.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold a Master's degree in a relevant field such as International Politics, International Relations, Communication, Arts, or Marketing. A Bachelor's degree may be considered if accompanied by additional relevant experience. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender issues and the UN's role in addressing them.
Experience: A minimum of one year of experience in communications, social media, or press relations is required. Candidates should have in-depth knowledge and experience working with Adobe Creative Suite, as well as familiarity with the UN system.
