Job Overview:
The Software Engineer position at the World Bank Group is a critical role within the Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) Vice Presidential Unit (VPU). This unit is focused on delivering transformative information and technologies to support the World Bank's mission of ending extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity. The Software Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining high-quality software solutions that are AI-driven and tailored to meet user needs and business goals. This role requires a strong commitment to Agile product management and innovation, as the engineer will lead the rapid design and delivery of AI-first solutions that enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness across various projects. The position also involves collaborating with cross-functional teams in an agile environment to ensure continuous improvement and innovation in software development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Software Engineer will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including: designing and governing the technical architecture for AI Acceleration solutions; translating business and functional requirements into clear architectural patterns; leading the technical design of AI-driven applications; establishing architectural guardrails and best practices; ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security standards; collaborating with software engineers and product teams; identifying and evaluating new technologies and AI frameworks; overseeing the integration of AI components; supporting performance and scalability engineering; developing reusable templates and architectural blueprints; driving technical decision-making throughout the solution lifecycle; providing mentorship and technical leadership to engineering teams; and contributing to Agile ceremonies as a senior technical voice.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree in STEM fields with a minimum of 7 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. They should demonstrate expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and have hands-on experience integrating modern AI capabilities into software solutions. A strong passion for innovation and a commitment to staying current on emerging AI technologies and engineering practices are essential. Candidates should also exhibit high levels of personal ownership, accountability, and organizational skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and deliver high-quality outcomes. Proficiency in English is mandatory, with clear communication skills suitable for global collaboration.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or a Bachelor's degree in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) with significant relevant experience. The emphasis is on candidates who have a strong foundation in technical subjects that support the development of software solutions, particularly those that incorporate AI technologies.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience for candidates with a Master's degree, or at least 7 years of relevant experience for those with a Bachelor's degree. This experience should include demonstrated expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and practical experience in integrating AI capabilities into software solutions. Candidates should also have a proven track record of working in Agile environments and delivering high-quality software products.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication and collaboration within the global team. While English is the required language, knowledge of additional languages may be considered a plus, particularly if they enhance communication with diverse stakeholders across different regions.
