Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Abuja is part of the global network of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs) managed by the United Nations Department of Global Communications (DGC). UNIC Abuja serves as the principal source of information about the United Nations system in Nigeria and collaborates closely with various stakeholders including the United Nations Country Team (UNCT), UN agencies, media organizations, civil society, educational institutions, youth networks, and digital communities. The mission of UNIC Abuja is to promote awareness and understanding of the work and priorities of the United Nations, particularly in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Job Overview:
The Graphics Design Intern will play a crucial role in supporting UNIC Abuja’s visual communication projects and initiatives across multiple media platforms. The intern will be responsible for developing high-quality infographic materials and formatted designs that will enhance the visibility of the United Nations in Nigeria. This position is integral to the implementation of the global UN communication strategy at the national level, working in collaboration with the Resident Coordinator and the UN Country Team in Nigeria. The intern will engage in various projects aimed at raising awareness and inspiring action on Agenda 2030 and the SDGs in Nigeria, utilizing their creative talents to produce compelling visual content. The internship is designed to provide practical experience in strategic communications within the United Nations system, allowing the intern to work on both global and local advocacy campaigns related to the SDGs, while also developing skills in multimedia storytelling, audience engagement, digital analytics, and public information.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the National Information Officer (NIO), the intern will assist in a variety of functions including: designing themes, infographics, layouts, and covers for documents; developing figures, colors, fonts, graphics, and layouts for materials such as newsletters, brochures, banners, posters, flyers, and booklets; creating graphic templates for reports and presentations; preparing printing packages for various publications; delivering creative ideas for print, web, and interactive presentations; creating animations for illustrative purposes; maintaining templates in software such as InDesign, CorelDraw, Publisher, and PowerPoint; providing videography and photographic support to the UN Information Centre; establishing and maintaining a photo and video library; and performing any other duties as requested.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or have graduated with a university degree in Information Technology, fine arts, graphic design, or a certified degree in CAD (computer-aided design and drafting) software relevant to the production of maps and illustrations. Additionally, experience in social media management, multimedia content creation, journalism, communications, or marketing" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">digital marketing is desirable. Familiarity with major social media platforms and digital engagement practices is also important, along with basic skills in multimedia editing tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes being enrolled in a graduate school programme or the final year of a first university degree programme. A degree in Information Technology, fine arts, graphic design, or a certified degree in CAD software is preferable. The internship is open to students in their final year of study or those who have completed their degree, allowing for a diverse range of applicants with relevant educational qualifications.

Experience:
No prior working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. However, any training, education, advanced coursework, or skills that can benefit the United Nations during the internship will be considered valuable. Experience in social media management, multimedia content creation, or digital marketing is desirable but not mandatory, as the internship is designed to provide learning opportunities for students and recent graduates.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this internship. Knowledge of one or more Nigerian languages or any UN official language is considered desirable, as it may enhance communication and engagement with local communities and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The internship is expected to last for three months, with the possibility of extension up to six months, depending on organizational needs and the availability of the intern. It is a full-time, in-person position at UNIC Abuja. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, and they are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Candidates who are not citizens or permanent residents of Nigeria may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
