Job Overview:
This position involves the update of the site plan for the tourism sector in Punta San Juan, specifically focusing on the management of protected natural areas. The role is designed for an individual contractor who will be responsible for ensuring that the tourism management documents are aligned with the best practices for the conservation of marine coastal protected areas. The contractor will need to demonstrate a strong understanding of the local context and the ecological significance of the area, as well as the ability to engage with various stakeholders involved in tourism and environmental management. The position requires a commitment to sustainable tourism practices and the ability to produce high-quality documentation that reflects the needs and aspirations of the local community while also adhering to national and international standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The contractor will be expected to fulfill several key responsibilities, including:
  • Conducting a comprehensive review of existing tourism management documents related to marine coastal protected areas.
  • Collaborating with local stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, and tourism operators, to gather input and feedback on the site plan.
  • Developing and updating the site plan to reflect current best practices in sustainable tourism and conservation.
  • Documenting at least two experiences in the management of protected natural areas, showcasing the contractor's expertise in this field.
  • Participating in the preparation of at least two management documents for tourism in protected marine coastal areas.
  • Demonstrating experience and/or participation in activities related to Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Ensuring that all documentation is completed within the specified timeframe and meets the quality standards set by UNDP.
  • Responding to inquiries and providing clarifications as needed throughout the project duration.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in environmental management, particularly in the context of protected areas and sustainable tourism. They should have proven experience in developing management plans and documents for natural areas, with a focus on marine coastal environments. Additionally, candidates should have a solid understanding of GIS and its application in environmental management. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as the contractor will need to work collaboratively with various stakeholders. The ability to work independently and manage time effectively is also crucial for this role.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in environmental science, natural resource management, tourism management, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. Candidates should have formal training in GIS and experience in its application within the context of environmental management and tourism planning.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of two years of relevant experience in the management of protected natural areas, with a focus on tourism. Experience in developing management plans and working with local communities and stakeholders is essential. Familiarity with the specific ecological and cultural context of the Punta San Juan area will be considered an asset. Previous experience working with UNDP or similar organizations is also desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in this language. Proficiency in English is considered a plus, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders and access to additional resources.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is 120 calendar days. This is a full-time role, and the contractor will be expected to work on-site in the District of Marcona, Province of Nasca, Region Ica.
