Job Overview:
The Consultant for Gender and Environment Statistics will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Women Count program, particularly focusing on environment statistics and non-conventional data sources. This position involves processing microdata from various surveys and geospatial sources to generate methodologically sound and internationally comparable estimates on gender and the environment. The consultant will work closely with the Women Count team in Asia-Pacific and liaise with the Global Data Hub team at UN Women Headquarters to ensure timely and accurate uploads of estimates to the Gender and Environment Dashboard. The consultant's work will contribute to expanding the set of indicators related to gender and oceans, thereby enhancing the overall understanding of gender-related environmental issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for generating accurate and comparable estimates on gender and the environment, including gender and oceans, for all countries with available data. Key activities include reviewing survey reports, conducting microdata analysis, ensuring alignment with international standards, and performing quality checks on estimates. The consultant will create reproducible R notebooks to document findings and will package codes into a git repository. Additionally, the consultant will analyze microdata and big data to generate indicators on gender and oceans, ensuring that all new estimates are uploaded accurately and timely to the dashboard. The consultant will also coordinate with the Women Count Communication Specialist and Database Analyst to align formatting needs for dashboard uploads and will conduct testing and troubleshooting of the dashboard functionalities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's Degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, social sciences, demography, development studies, or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. A minimum of 2 years of work experience in conducting advanced analysis of microdata from individual-level surveys and integrating big data sources is required. Proficiency in Stata and R, including statistical analysis and microdata processing, is essential. Familiarity with Python is considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate experience in creating high-quality statistical outputs and developing reproducible research outputs using R Markdown or Quarto. Knowledge of geospatial data and experience with Git platforms are also valuable.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position includes a Master's Degree in relevant fields such as statistics, mathematics, economics, social sciences, demography, or development studies. In cases where candidates hold a first-level university degree, they must have two additional years of qualifying experience to be considered for the role.
