Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is situated within the Public Information Office of the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) in Geneva, Switzerland. The intern will work closely with both the Associate Public Information Officer and the Public Information Officer, gaining valuable experience in public outreach and communication strategies. The role is designed to provide the intern with hands-on experience in developing content for various platforms, including social media, newsletters, and the IIMM website. The intern will be expected to engage in a variety of outreach activities, contributing to the overall mission of the IIMM to promote awareness and understanding of its work and the human rights situation in Myanmar. This internship is a full-time position, requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week for a duration of 3 to 6 months, with a desired start date in September 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of duties that include, but are not limited to: developing engaging social media content to enhance the IIMM's online presence; producing videos, infographics, and other visual materials that effectively communicate the organization's messages; writing clear and concise content for social media platforms, the IIMM website, and newsletters; facilitating the translation of texts by liaising with the translation team to ensure timely requests and receipt of translations; taking detailed notes during relevant meetings, including sessions of the Human Rights Council; and monitoring relevant news sources to circulate daily press clippings to keep the team informed of current events related to Myanmar and human rights issues.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Additionally, applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's, or Ph.D. program, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. program. It is essential for applicants to indicate which criteria they meet and provide proof with their application. An official certificate will be required at a later stage.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program or being in the final year of a bachelor's degree program. The focus of the field of study should be closely related to the internship role, ideally in areas such as communications, public relations, international relations, or human rights. This educational foundation will help the intern effectively contribute to the tasks and responsibilities outlined in the internship description.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not a requirement for applicants to the UN Internship Programme, it is desirable for candidates to have experience in drafting news articles and social media posts in English. Familiarity with design software for creating social media posts and experience in video editing software for producing short videos or animations are also considered advantageous. This experience will enhance the intern's ability to fulfill the duties of the position effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Additionally, knowledge of French is beneficial, as it is also a working language within the UN system. Proficiency in both languages will enable the intern to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders and contribute to the organization's outreach efforts.
