Job Overview:
The position of Local Consultant for Product Quality and Market Compliance in the Leather and Crafts sector is aimed at enhancing the quality of products and ensuring compliance with market requirements. The consultant will be responsible for assessing current practices in the leather and crafts sectors, identifying gaps in quality and compliance, and providing actionable recommendations to improve these areas. The assignment is expected to last for 90 days, spread over a period of 5 months, during which the consultant will engage with local stakeholders, conduct market research, and develop strategies to elevate product standards. The consultant will also be expected to prepare reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations, ensuring that all outputs align with UNDP's mission and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting a comprehensive assessment of the current product quality and market compliance in the leather and crafts sectors; engaging with local artisans and producers to understand their challenges and needs; developing a framework for quality assurance and compliance that aligns with international standards; providing training and capacity-building sessions for local stakeholders to enhance their understanding of quality requirements; preparing detailed reports on findings, recommendations, and action plans; collaborating with UNDP and other partners to implement the proposed strategies; and monitoring and evaluating the impact of implemented changes over the course of the assignment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in product quality management, market compliance, or a related field. A proven track record of working with local industries, particularly in the leather and crafts sectors, is essential. The consultant should have excellent analytical skills, the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and experience in capacity building and training. Familiarity with international quality standards and market compliance regulations is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong project management skills and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business administration, quality management, or a related discipline is required. A master's degree or equivalent qualification would be an advantage. Relevant certifications in quality management systems or market compliance would also be beneficial.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of professional experience in product quality management, market compliance, or a related area. Experience working with local artisans or in the leather and crafts sectors is highly preferred. The consultant should have a demonstrated ability to manage projects effectively and deliver results within specified timelines.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all reports and communications will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Lesotho would be an asset, as it may facilitate better communication with local stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as an individual contractor role, and the contract duration is set for 90 days, spread over 5 months. The consultant is expected to work on a full-time basis during this period. The position is open to both national and international candidates, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
