Job Overview: The UN Volunteer Specialist (Emergency WASH) position is critical to UNICEF's response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, particularly in the WASH sector. The role involves supporting the planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of emergency WASH interventions across conflict-affected areas. The UN Volunteer will work closely with the WASH Specialist (Emergency) to ensure timely and quality delivery of emergency programming, strengthen monitoring and accountability mechanisms, and contribute to donor engagement and evidence generation. This position is essential for sustaining the operational tempo of the WASH section and meeting commitments to affected populations. The UN Volunteer will be involved in various activities, including water trucking operations, emergency rehabilitation of damaged facilities, and community hygiene promotion activities targeting vulnerable populations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Volunteer Specialist will undertake a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including:
Supporting the planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of emergency WASH interventions across conflict-affected areas.
Maintaining and updating programme monitoring dashboards and tracking tools to monitor progress against targets, financial expenditure, and partner delivery performance.
Contributing to the preparation of monthly and quarterly donor reports, situation reports, flash updates, and humanitarian situation analyses.
Coordinating with WASH Cluster partners, national and international NGOs, and government counterparts to monitor programme implementation and identify gaps.
Conducting regular field missions to verify programme outputs, assess ongoing and emerging WASH needs, and document human interest stories.
Contributing to the development of project proposals, concept notes, technical assessments, and donor-facing briefs.
Supporting procurement planning and supply chain monitoring for WASH materials and equipment.
Performing any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the UN Volunteer Specialist position should possess a strong set of qualifications, including:

Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Ukrainian or Russian is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local partners and communities. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, depending on the specific needs of the role.
Additional Notes: This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and the selected candidate will be responsible for organizing their own accommodation. The contract is full-time and lasts for the period indicated in the vacancy, with the possibility of extensions based on funding availability and performance. The monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) is USD 1717, which is intended to cover housing, utilities, and living expenses. Additional benefits include a one-time entry lump sum payment of USD 350, medical insurance coverage for the volunteer and eligible dependents, and life insurance for the duration of the assignment. UN Volunteers accrue annual leave at a rate of 2.5 days per completed month, with provisions for learning leave and sick leave as outlined in the contract.
