Job Overview:

Interns will work closely with National Legal Officers (NLOs) and Legal Advisers (LAs) to support the mission's objectives, which include monitoring court cases, analyzing legal decisions, and contributing to the development of transitional justice programming. Interns will be involved in various tasks that enhance their understanding of the legal framework in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the international standards that govern human rights and criminal law. This role is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and contribute to meaningful legal reforms and justice initiatives in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a range of tasks that provide insight into the workings of the OSCE Mission. These include monitoring court cases and the human rights situation within justice sector institutions, conducting research and analysis of legal decisions, tracking electoral fraud and hate crime cases, and assisting in data collection activities. Interns will also engage in desk research related to criminal and transitional justice, draft reports and memoranda, summarize conferences and meetings, assist in organizing events, and translate documents between BCS and English. The role requires a proactive approach and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams while maintaining impartiality and objectivity.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be under the age of 30 at the time of application and should be in their final year of higher education at the graduate or postgraduate level, or have graduated within the last two years. A strong understanding of international legal standards, particularly in humanitarian and criminal law, is essential. Candidates should possess professional fluency in English and local languages, with excellent communication skills. Strong analytical, research, and drafting abilities are necessary, along with proficiency in Microsoft applications. The ability to work effectively with individuals from various cultural backgrounds is also important.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in law, international relations, or a related field is required for this internship. Candidates should have a solid foundation in legal principles and an understanding of the political and historical context of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Experience:
While prior experience in an international organization or similar environment is considered an asset, it is not mandatory. The internship is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and gain practical experience in the field of rule of law and human rights.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, along with proficiency in local languages (Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian). Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid, and the OSCE does not cover any expenses incurred during the internship. However, non-resident interns may receive a small compensation towards living costs. The internship lasts up to six months and does not guarantee future employment with the OSCE. Interns must provide proof of health insurance valid in Bosnia and Herzegovina or enroll in the OSCE's health insurance scheme at their own expense.
