Job Overview:
The Area Coordination Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the mobilization and placement of UN Volunteers within UN Agencies and partner entities at the country level. Reporting to the Country Coordinator and under the guidance of the Regional Manager, the assistant is responsible for developing and maintaining strategic partnerships, managing relationships with key stakeholders, and ensuring the effective delivery of volunteer services. This position requires regular interaction with UN personnel and involves a comprehensive understanding of UNV's offerings, policies, and procedures. The assistant will also contribute to business intelligence efforts, support talent acquisition, and enhance the overall volunteer experience, ensuring that volunteers are well-supported throughout their assignments.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in mobilizing volunteers and developing and maintaining partnerships by supporting the mobilization of volunteers, managing key accounts, and ensuring effective collaboration with UN partners.
  • Contribute to business intelligence by gathering information, recording mobilization opportunities, and keeping the Country Coordinator informed of changes in the UN operating environment.
  • Support talent acquisition by attracting qualified local talent, identifying effective sourcing channels, and assisting in advocacy campaigns.
  • Contribute to a positive volunteer experience by providing support during onboarding, responding to inquiries, and organizing appreciation initiatives.
  • Support the duty of care for UN Volunteers by liaising with security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security focal points, providing timely support during medical evacuations, and ensuring volunteers have access to necessary resources and information.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong relationship management skills, the ability to engage with diverse partners, and a results-oriented mindset. Knowledge of the UN system and relevant theories, concepts, and methodologies is essential. The candidate should also demonstrate customer satisfaction skills, with a focus on understanding and fulfilling clients' needs. Additionally, the ability to generate knowledge and apply it to new situations is crucial for success in this role.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required, typically including a degree in social sciences, international relations, development studies, or a related field. Advanced degrees may be preferred, depending on the specific requirements of the position.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in partnership management, volunteer mobilization, or related fields. Experience working with UN agencies or in a similar international context is highly desirable. Familiarity with volunteer management processes and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of additional UN languages, particularly French or Spanish, is considered an asset. Proficiency in the local language may also be beneficial for effective communication with local partners and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer assignment, not employment, and the incumbent will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The assignment is full-time and may be extended based on performance and funding availability. The UN Volunteer will receive a monthly living allowance, entry lump sum, and exit allowance, as well as health and life insurance coverage. The role emphasizes the importance of volunteerism and aims to foster a sense of belonging and purpose among volunteers.
