Job Posting Organization: Goodness and Mercy Missions (GMM) is a nonprofit organization established in 2007 and based in the North West Region of Cameroon. It has held Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) since 201
GMM's mission is to break cycles of poverty and vulnerability through various initiatives including education, women's empowerment, community development, and humanitarian relief. The organization operates programs such as school sponsorship, computer training, library services, school construction, solar energy distribution, peace building, and emergency assistance to families affected by crises. GMM aims to strengthen its community-based early childhood education (ECE) work in the Boyo Division and surrounding areas, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4, 1, 5, 10, and 16, by mobilizing a team of Online Volunteers to produce a structured comparative review of ECE models across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Job Overview: The position involves engaging Online Volunteers to support GMM's mission of enhancing early childhood education in crisis-affected regions. Volunteers will work collaboratively to produce a comparative review of community-based ECE models, focusing on identifying effective design principles and delivery mechanisms that align with GMM's operational context. The work is crucial in addressing the significant gaps in early childhood education provision, particularly in regions impacted by armed conflict and chronic poverty. Volunteers will contribute to a comprehensive understanding of how community-based ECE can be effectively implemented in fragile settings, thereby directly supporting GMM's efforts to deliver quality educational services to children and families affected by the ongoing Anglophone crisis in Cameroon.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties of the Online Volunteers include leading the design of a comparative framework for assessing community-based ECE models, developing selection criteria for case studies, conducting structured literature reviews on the conceptual foundations of ECE, analyzing selected case studies, synthesizing findings into actionable recommendations, and preparing a final report that integrates all contributions. Specific tasks include documenting the comparative framework, curating case studies from various contexts, reviewing academic literature, producing structured case narratives, and designing a comparative matrix for the final report. Volunteers will collaborate through a shared virtual workspace and report to GMM's program team, ensuring effective coordination and knowledge sharing throughout the project.
Required Qualifications: Volunteers are expected to have strong research and analytical skills, experience in early childhood education or related fields, and the ability to work collaboratively in a virtual environment. Familiarity with community-based education models, crisis-affected contexts, and relevant literature is highly desirable. Volunteers should also possess excellent written communication skills to effectively document findings and recommendations. A commitment to GMM's mission and values, as well as a proactive approach to problem-solving, will be essential for success in this role.
Educational Background: A background in education, social sciences, international development, or a related field is preferred. Volunteers should ideally have relevant academic qualifications or professional experience that equips them with the necessary knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the project.
Experience: While specific years of experience may not be required, a demonstrated understanding of early childhood education, community development, or humanitarian work is advantageous. Experience working in crisis-affected settings or with nonprofit organizations will be beneficial for volunteers in this role.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in English. Knowledge of French or other local languages spoken in Cameroon may be considered an asset, enhancing the ability to engage with diverse communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position is voluntary and remote, allowing individuals from various locations to participate. The duration of the assignment is not specified, but volunteers are expected to commit to the project timeline and deliverables. This role is suitable for individuals seeking to gain experience in international development, education, and community-based initiatives, while contributing to meaningful change in the lives of children and families affected by crisis.
