Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
UNICEF, established in 1946, is a United Nations agency dedicated to promoting the rights and well-being of children worldwide. With a mission to ensure that every child has the opportunity to survive, develop, and thrive, UNICEF operates in over 150 countries, employing thousands of staff members who work tirelessly to advocate for children's rights and provide essential services. The organization focuses on equity, aiming to reach the most disadvantaged and excluded children and families, ensuring that no child is left behind. UNICEF's work encompasses various sectors, including health, education, protection, and sanitation, all aimed at fostering sustainable growth and stability in nations.

Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position within UNICEF Mozambique's Child Protection section is designed to support the development of a Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) tracking system and visual dashboard. This role is crucial as it aims to streamline the tracking and follow-up processes related to Direct Cash Transfers (DCTs), FACE forms, programmatic visits, and audit actions. The volunteer will work closely with the Child Protection team to consolidate existing data and tools, making it easier to monitor the status of grants and identify bottlenecks in the process. The ultimate goal is to create a user-friendly system that enhances the team's ability to manage grants effectively and ensure compliance with UNICEF's operational standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will undertake several key responsibilities, including:
  • Reviewing and organizing existing data and tools related to DCTs, FACE forms, programmatic visits, and audit actions.
  • Supporting the organization and simplification of information to create a clear overview of grant statuses.
  • Identifying overlaps, gaps, and opportunities for improvement in the current tracking processes.
  • Assisting in the definition of key KPIs, focusing on critical areas such as pending DCTs, FACE returns, programmatic visits, and audit actions.
  • Developing a simple tracking tool using Excel that includes a grant-level overview, KPI tracking sheets, and an action tracker with integrated logic for overdue items and status updates.
  • Designing a visual dashboard in Excel or PowerPoint to effectively visualize key KPIs, highlight delays and risks, and facilitate internal discussions.
  • Contributing innovative ideas to enhance the usability and design of the tracking system, ensuring it is easy to use and maintain.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Online Volunteer position should possess strong analytical skills and a good understanding of data management. Proficiency in Excel is essential, as the role involves creating tracking tools and dashboards. Additionally, the volunteer should have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with the Child Protection team. Familiarity with UNICEF's mission and objectives, particularly in relation to child protection, is highly desirable. Strong communication skills are also important, as the volunteer will need to explain the functionality of the tools developed.

Educational Background:
A background in fields such as data analysis, social sciences, public health, or a related area is preferred. Candidates should ideally have completed or be pursuing a degree in a relevant discipline, demonstrating a commitment to child rights and social equity.

Experience:
While prior experience in a similar role is not mandatory, any relevant experience in data management, monitoring and evaluation, or project management will be considered an asset. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working with data and possess a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of Portuguese is an advantage, given the local context of Mozambique, and would enhance the volunteer's ability to engage with local stakeholders and understand the community's needs.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and as such, it may not offer financial compensation. However, it provides an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain experience in international development and child protection. The role is expected to be part-time and flexible, allowing the volunteer to work remotely while contributing to UNICEF's mission. The duration of the contract will be determined based on the project's needs and the volunteer's availability.
