Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
UN Women was established in July 2010 as the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The organization was created as part of the UN reform agenda, merging resources and mandates from four previously distinct parts of the UN system that focused on gender equality and women's empowerment. UN Women operates globally, working towards the elimination of discrimination against women and girls, the empowerment of women, and the achievement of gender equality. The organization emphasizes transparency and accountability in its operations, being a member of the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) and committed to publishing high-quality, timely, and comprehensive data on its activities and results. UN Women has a significant presence in various countries, working with numerous stakeholders to promote gender equality and women's rights.

Job Overview:
The Data Consultant position at UN Women is crucial for supporting the transition to a new data architecture that aligns with IATI and Transparency Portal requirements. The consultant will work within the Strategic Planning Unit (SPU) and collaborate with Information Systems and Technology (IST), the Transparency Portal vendor, and IATI stakeholders. The role involves ensuring high-quality data preparation and enabling the automation of data flows from the new ERP system, PRISM, to external reporting platforms. The consultant will be responsible for reviewing and assessing the new data structure, identifying data gaps, and ensuring compliance with IATI data quality requirements. This position requires a strong analytical mindset and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, focusing on improving data quality and transparency performance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Data Consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: reviewing and assessing the new data structure for alignment with IATI standards; identifying data gaps and inconsistencies; extracting, cleaning, validating, and preparing datasets for IATI and Transparency Portal reporting; developing and documenting data transformation and validation processes; managing the design and implementation of data workflows; collaborating with technical teams to establish automated data pipelines; contributing to defining data standards and metadata structures; performing systematic quality assurance checks on data outputs; developing analyses of IATI reporting outputs; and engaging with internal stakeholders to promote data quality standards. The consultant will also be responsible for producing various outputs, including data structure review reports, cleaned datasets, documentation of data processes, and quality assurance reports.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Master’s degree in data science, information systems, statistics, computer science, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Candidates must possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. They should have excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to document processes and explain technical data processes to non-technical stakeholders. Familiarity with international data standards, particularly IATI, is highly desirable, along with experience in data visualization tools and cloud-based data platforms.

Educational Background:
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as data science, information systems, statistics, or computer science. A first-level university degree may be accepted if combined with sufficient relevant experience. This educational background is essential for understanding complex data structures and ensuring compliance with international data standards.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in data management, data engineering, data analytics, or related areas. Candidates should have proven experience in data extraction, cleaning, transformation, and validation processes, as well as familiarity with data modeling and data warehousing. Strong programming skills in SQL and at least one other programming language, such as Python or R, are necessary for data processing and automation. Experience in designing automated data pipelines and familiarity with international data standards is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of additional languages, such as French or Spanish, or any other UN official language, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
This position is remote, allowing for flexibility in work location. UN Women is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment and encourages applications from all qualified individuals regardless of race, religion, gender identity, or other characteristics. The organization has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct incompatible with its aims and objectives, including discrimination and harassment. Selected candidates will undergo rigorous reference and background checks, including verification of academic credentials and employment history. Applicants must ensure that all sections of the application form are completed to avoid disqualification from the recruitment process.
