The organization merges and builds upon the work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system that focused on gender equality. UN Women operates in multiple countries and is committed to promoting gender equality through various initiatives, including the Women's Economic Empowerment Unit, which aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Job Overview:
The intern will support the Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE) Unit at UN Women, primarily focusing on the 2026 Asia-Pacific WEPs Awards. This role involves assisting in the review of applications, coordinating logistics for the awards ceremony, and contributing to communications activities. The intern will gain insights into UN Women’s operations and the broader UN system while working on initiatives that promote gender equality and women's empowerment in the private sector. The position offers a unique opportunity to engage with various stakeholders and contribute to impactful projects aimed at fostering gender-responsive business practices and inclusive economies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the review of applications and conduct due diligence for the 2026 Asia-Pacific WEPs Awards.
  • Assist in preparations for the Regional Ceremony, including drafting invitation letters and coordinating logistics with the event organizing agency.
  • Contribute to GAL communications by drafting newsletters, impact stories, and WEPs case studies, as well as creating social media content using Canva.
  • Document key highlights and success stories for internal and external communications.
  • Develop presentation decks and briefing materials for GAL events.
  • Compile and organize information from workshops and meetings to support institutional memory.
  • Liaise with GAL country teams and provide technical guidance for WEPs Awards application review.
  • Assist in planning and implementing GAL activities, particularly the 2026 Asia-Pacific WEPs Awards Regional Ceremony.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of women's economic empowerment and gender equality issues.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse actors, including remote collaboration.
  • Strong multi-tasking abilities and capacity to manage competing priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic data analysis skills.
  • Strong research, writing, and critical analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in engaging with diverse stakeholders.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have university studies in disciplines such as gender studies, development studies, international affairs, business, economics, or related fields. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: a) Enrolled in a postgraduate degree program; b) Enrolled in the final year of a first university degree program; c) Enrolled in a mandatory national service program; d) Recently graduated with a relevant university degree and must start the internship within two years of graduation.

Experience:
The position is designed for individuals who are either currently enrolled in a relevant academic program or have recently graduated. Previous experience in gender equality, women's empowerment, or related fields is advantageous but not mandatory. The intern should be prepared to engage in a fast-paced environment and contribute to various projects.

Languages:
Excellent communication skills in English (both written and oral) are required. Knowledge of another UN language is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid, but a stipend may be provided to cover basic living costs for those not receiving financial support from other sources. The position is full-time, and candidates must provide proof of enrollment in a valid health insurance plan, proof of school enrollment or degree, and a scanned copy of their passport/national ID.
