Job Overview: The UNV Gender Programme Associate will play a crucial role in supporting UNFPA's gender portfolio in Malaysia. This position involves providing programmatic support, including planning, implementation, and reporting of gender programs. The associate will conduct legal and policy research, data analysis, and assist in drafting presentations and internal documents. Additionally, the role includes supporting program monitoring through field visits and drafting reports to inform program improvements. The associate will also be involved in organizing gender-related events, supporting the UN Malaysia Gender Results Group, and participating in initiatives related to the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA). This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance understanding of gender-based violence and promote good practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide programmatic support for UNFPA in Malaysia’s gender portfolio, including planning, coordination, implementation, and reporting.
Conduct legal and policy research, data analysis, and synthesis to inform gender design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design and advocacy.
Assist in drafting presentations, briefs, and internal documents for UNFPA and inter-agency use.
Support program monitoring, including conducting field visits and drafting monitoring reports.
Provide logistical support for gender-related events, including planning, coordination, and post-event advocacy follow-ups.
Support the UN Malaysia Gender Results Group and its activities, including reporting on Gender Scorecard indicators.
Participate in PSEA Network meetings and support internal coordination.
Facilitate internal and external knowledge sharing of good practices related to gender equality and GBV.
Undertake any other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess a strong commitment to gender equality and women's rights. They should demonstrate excellent communication skills, integrity, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively in teams. A proactive approach to continuous learning and knowledge sharing is essential. Familiarity with gender issues, particularly in the context of sexual and reproductive health, is highly desirable. The candidate should also have strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
Educational Background: A degree in social sciences, gender studies, public health, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in gender issues or sexual and reproductive health would be an advantage. Candidates should have a solid understanding of the legal and policy frameworks related to gender equality and women's rights.
Experience: Candidates should have relevant experience in program support, advocacy, or research related to gender equality and sexual and reproductive health. Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or government agencies in similar roles is preferred. Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation processes, as well as experience in organizing events, will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of UNFPA. Knowledge of Malay is an advantage, and proficiency in other languages such as Tamil or Chinese may also be beneficial.
Additional Notes: This position is a volunteer role under the UNV program. The contract duration and specific terms will be discussed during the recruitment process.
