Job Overview: The Accounting Coordinator position at CIMMYT is a critical role responsible for overseeing the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, fixed assets, and related accounting activities across multiple locations, including Headquarters, Experimental Stations, and CIMMYT Offices. The coordinator will manage vendor databases, facilitate multi-currency expense allocations, coordinate monthly closings, support audit processes, and lead improvements in accounting workflows and internal controls. This position requires a proactive approach to managing accounting operations and ensuring compliance with local and international accounting regulations. The coordinator will also supervise a team, drive enhancements in the ERP system, and serve as a key liaison with regulatory authorities, making this role essential for the financial health and operational efficiency of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Accounting Coordinator will be responsible for a comprehensive set of duties including: managing the end-to-end processing of Accounts Payable and Fixed Assets operations, which involves document review, vendor and fixed asset master data maintenance, invoice processing, purchase order invoicing, petty cash reimbursements, and multi-currency expense allocation. The coordinator will record and maintain fixed asset transactions, ensuring accurate and compliant registration of all accounting operations for the Center. They will oversee the VAT refund process and maintain communication with representatives from the Mexican Ministry of Treasury. Additionally, the coordinator will lead annual fixed asset inventory counts, administer and optimize the ERP system’s Accounts Payable and Fixed Assets modules, and ensure accurate coding of expenditures. They will coordinate timely monthly accounting closings, support internal and external audits, provide critical financial data for institutional reporting, and develop internal controls and performance metrics. The coordinator will also supervise and mentor the Accounting team, providing guidance and organizing training sessions, while ensuring exceptional customer service by resolving accounting-related inquiries promptly.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience is required, with knowledge of IFRS and ERP system implementation. The ideal candidate will have a strong customer service orientation, the ability to work under pressure, and effective teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Self-motivation, strong analytical thinking, and a results-oriented mindset are essential, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to influence and persuade effectively. Advanced proficiency in English (C1/C2) is mandatory, and experience with ERP systems, particularly Microsoft D365, is strongly preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Power BI and Excel, is also required.
Educational Background: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
