Job Overview:
The Systems Electronic Technician at the Toronto Regional Office is responsible for ensuring the maintenance and operational readiness of equipment installed at Canadian nuclear facilities. This role involves providing technical support to nuclear safeguards inspectors and technical staff, as well as participating in the modification and development of equipment as needed. The technician will work closely with a small team of nuclear safeguards inspectors and will be involved in various technical and administrative tasks related to the management of equipment. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and compliance with radiation safety regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be tasked with assembling, installing, servicing, and maintaining various types of unattended radiation monitoring systems and surveillance safeguards systems at nuclear facilities. Responsibilities also include calibrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting portable non-destructive analysis equipment, coordinating in-field activities with counterparts at nuclear facilities, managing the inventory of resident equipment, conducting procurement, packing, shipping, and updating related databases. The technician will keep accurate records of all equipment, prepare technical reports, and provide technical support to nuclear safeguards inspectors and SGTS personnel as required. Additionally, the role may involve exposure to radioactive materials, necessitating medical clearance and adherence to radiation safety protocols.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of seven years of relevant working experience in electronics, with demonstrated experience in setting up, testing, troubleshooting, and installing electronic systems. Familiarity with electrical instrumentation and network-based systems is essential, along with some experience in nuclear facilities or radiation-controlled environments. Knowledge of international safeguards activities is considered an asset. The position requires good physical condition to handle equipment and work under challenging conditions, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages is advantageous.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background in electronics or a related field is required, with a strong emphasis on technical skills related to electronic systems and instrumentation. Candidates should have formal training or certification in electronics, engineering, or a related discipline that supports the technical requirements of the position.

Experience:
The position requires extensive experience in the electronics field, specifically in roles that involve the maintenance and troubleshooting of electronic systems. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in environments that require adherence to strict safety and compliance standards, particularly in the context of nuclear facilities or similar settings.
