Job Overview: The Finance AssistantIntern position is designed to provide essential support to the Finance team at Save the Children. The intern will engage in maintaining accurate financial records and assisting with routine financial tasks, which include data entry, filing, invoice processing, and preparing simple reports. Duties and Responsibilities: The Finance Assistant Intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting with the data entry of financial transactions into accounting systems; supporting the processing of invoices, including coding and matching them with purchase orders; maintaining organized filing systems for both digital and paper financial documents; updating and reconciling spreadsheets for expense tracking and account reconciliation; providing support during the month-end close by preparing simple schedules or reports; responding to basic vendor or internal inquiries regarding payment status; and collaborating with team members on ad hoc administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of financial processes.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this position, candidates must meet several criteria. This internship is funded by the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Job Program, and applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. They must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or individuals who have been granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment. Additionally, candidates must possess a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada according to relevant provincial or territorial legislation. Furthermore, applicants should be current post-secondary students returning to school in the Fall. Note that international students are not eligible for this position, as the program aims to support youth entering the Canadian labor market.
Educational Background: Candidates should be currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from a Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related program. This educational background is essential to ensure that the intern has a foundational understanding of financial principles and practices, which will be applied during their internship.
