Job Posting Organization: The ITER Organization is an international nuclear fusion research and engineering project, established to demonstrate the feasibility of fusion as a large-scale and carbon-free source of energy. The project was initiated in 1985 and involves collaboration among 35 nations, including the European Union, the United States, Russia, Japan, China, South Korea, and India. The ITER Organization is headquartered in Cadarache, France, and employs a diverse workforce of over 1,000 employees from various countries, contributing to the mission of advancing fusion energy research and technology.
Job Overview: As a Project Leader within the Tokamak Program, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful completion of engineering, manufacturing, assembly, installation, and system commissioning phases for all components and systems within your defined scope of activity. Your primary responsibility will be to prepare for the operational phase of the ITER Project and achieve critical milestones on time. This position requires close collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Safety and Quality Department, Central Integration Division, Engineering Services Department, Domestic Agencies, and other relevant interfaces. You will manage the Divertor project, ensuring compliance with the ITER Project baseline requirements, which encompass system performance, integration, quality, cost, and schedule. Your leadership will be essential in organizing, coordinating, and controlling all activities related to project deliverables, as well as managing project resources effectively to achieve the project's goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of the Project Leader include providing technical expertise in engineering, fabrication, construction, commissioning, operation, and maintenance for large industrial installations or construction environments. You will lead the ITER Project contracts related to construction works, ensuring successful setup of groups and assignments to maintain correct reporting lines and resource management. You will execute assigned contracts according to the applicable construction baseline, managing installation sequences and related coordination duties to meet schedule, cost, and quality requirements. Additionally, you will collaborate with the Procurement Division to tender and manage contracts related to construction works, including tooling and ad-hoc procurements. You will administer the cost envelope assigned to the Project's budget, ensuring compliance with the Resource Loaded Schedule and Vertical Project and Cost Management approach. Furthermore, you will contribute to defining short- and long-term staffing needs for the ITER Project in coordination with line management. Additional responsibilities include establishing and maintaining detailed work plans for engineering, construction, commissioning, operation, and maintenance phases, organizing the handover of components and systems, ensuring the preparation of construction documentation, managing assembly tools and platforms, performing configuration and quality management, exploring risk reduction opportunities, and implementing necessary optimizations in case of delays.
Required Qualifications: Essential qualifications for this position include a demonstrated experience in engineering, fabrication, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and project management within large industrial installations or construction environments. Experience in nuclear and/or fusion devices, particularly in relation to the ITER Project, is highly desirable. You should possess project management skills in large construction projects involving multi-national collaboration, procurement, planning, risk management, and progress reporting. Strong leadership capabilities are essential for maintaining a healthy working environment and motivating results. Stakeholder management skills are also crucial for building partnerships and working collaboratively with all project stakeholders.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or equivalent in engineering, management fields, or other relevant disciplines. In cases where the required education degree cannot be met, extensive professional experience involving similar work responsibilities or additional training certificates in relevant domains may be considered as substitutes.
Experience: The level of experience needed for this position includes demonstrated experience in engineering, fabrication, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and project management in large industrial installations or construction environments. Experience specifically related to nuclear and/or fusion devices, such as ITER, is highly valued. Candidates should also have experience managing large construction projects with multi-national collaboration, including procurement, planning, risk management, and progress reporting.
Languages: Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not explicitly required.
Additional Notes: This position offers an initial employment contract of up to five years, with the possibility for extension.
