Job Overview:
The Programme Support Officer will play a crucial role in supporting UN Women's initiatives in Afghanistan, particularly in the Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) sector. This position involves engaging with various stakeholders, including women business networks and civil society organizations, to promote women's participation in economic activities and ensure their voices are heard in peace and security processes. The officer will be responsible for coordinating events, managing logistics, and supporting field monitoring of projects. This role requires a proactive approach to advocacy and collaboration with partners to enhance the impact of UN Women’s programs in Afghanistan, especially in light of the ongoing economic challenges faced by women in the country.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Programme Support Officer will undertake a variety of tasks, including:
  • Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement: Engaging with women business networks and communities to establish strong linkages with UN Women, supporting coordination with relevant stakeholders, and facilitating high-impact advocacy activities.
  • Events and Logistics: Coordinating meetings, managing schedules, drafting meeting minutes, organizing events and workshops, and handling logistics.
  • Travel and Logistics: Supporting travel arrangements, preparing travel plans, and ensuring compliance with administrative and security regulations.
  • Research and Knowledge Products: Keeping abreast of research related to the Afghan economy and women's businesses, and supporting field research and consultations.
  • Integration of UN Volunteer Mandate: Encouraging voluntary action through community engagement and promoting the UN Volunteers Programme.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. A demonstrated commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment is essential. Proficiency in project management and stakeholder engagement is required, along with the ability to adapt to challenging conditions. Candidates should also have a strong understanding of the socio-economic context of Afghanistan and the challenges faced by women in the region.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, international development, gender studies, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees are preferred and may be considered an asset for this position. Relevant certifications in project management or gender studies would also be beneficial.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of experience in program support, project management, or a related field, preferably within the context of gender equality and women's empowerment. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs in Afghanistan or similar contexts is highly desirable. Familiarity with the UN system and its operations in humanitarian settings will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of local languages such as Dari or Pashto is highly desirable and will enhance communication with local stakeholders and communities.

This position is a full-time role based in Afghanistan, requiring a commitment to work in challenging and potentially hazardous conditions.
