Job Overview:
The Field Manager (FM) position is a senior leadership role responsible for the operational management and coordination of NRC’s activities at the field sub-office level in Wedweil, South Sudan. The FM will oversee the efficient and accountable management of programs and support functions, ensuring that NRC's interventions are effectively implemented in response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis. This role requires a strong focus on staff management, program coordination, and external engagement with stakeholders, including local authorities and humanitarian actors. The position is critical for enhancing NRC's operational reach and responsiveness in the region, particularly in light of the ongoing influx of returnees and refugees from Sudan.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Field Manager will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Leading and managing field staff to ensure timely and quality implementation of programs.
  • Overseeing day-to-day operations to facilitate effective project delivery.
  • Ensuring that all activities align with approved plans and timelines.
  • Monitoring progress against targets and ensuring that deliverables are met on schedule.
  • Conducting regular site visits to assess performance and provide guidance to staff.
  • Coordinating with program and support teams to enable efficient implementation of activities.
  • Preparing and submitting timely and accurate field reports on progress and challenges.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including local authorities and community members.
  • Ensuring compliance with NRC policies and safeguarding standards, while identifying and mitigating risks. 1
  • Representing NRC in field-level coordination forums and carrying out any other tasks as delegated by the line manager.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Field Manager position should possess the following qualifications:
  • A minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in a managerial role within humanitarian or recovery contexts.
  • Proven experience in complex and volatile humanitarian environments.
  • Strong skills in coordination, inter-agency collaboration, and stakeholder engagement.
  • A solid understanding of support functions such as finance, logistics, and human resources, as well as program implementation.
  • Professional proficiency in English, both written and verbal, is essential.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate for the Field Manager position should have a relevant educational background, typically a degree in humanitarian studies, international relations, social sciences, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in humanitarian response or project management may be advantageous.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have substantial experience, specifically 2 to 3 years in a managerial capacity within humanitarian or recovery contexts. Experience in navigating complex and volatile environments is crucial, as is familiarity with inter-agency coordination and representation.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this role, as it is the primary language of communication within NRC and with external stakeholders. Knowledge of local languages spoken in South Sudan would be considered an asset, enhancing communication with local communities and authorities.
