Job Overview:
The Protection Team Leader will be stationed in Wedweil, South Sudan, and will play a crucial role in overseeing the implementation of Protection from Violence (PfV) activities. This position involves direct supervision of PfV Officers and ensuring that all activities are executed in accordance with NRC's standards and humanitarian principles. The Team Leader will act as the primary point of contact for field-level coordination, providing technical guidance and problem-solving support. The role is essential for ensuring that PfV services are delivered timely and inclusively, addressing the needs of the most vulnerable populations. The Team Leader will also be responsible for capacity building among project staff and fostering collaboration with local authorities and stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of protection initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Team Leader will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Line management of field office-level Protection staff, ensuring adherence to NRC policies and procedures.
  • Contributing to the development of Protection strategies and project proposals, providing insights on needs and gaps in the community.
  • Managing and implementing a delegated portfolio of Protection projects, ensuring high technical quality and compliance with donor requirements.
  • Providing regular progress reports to the Area Programme Manager and ensuring that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection.
  • Promoting innovative ideas for improvement in project activities and ensuring capacity building of project staff.
  • Liaising with local authorities and key stakeholders to enhance collaboration and support for protection initiatives.
  • Implementing protection from violence activities, including managing budgets, spending plans, and procurement processes.
  • Collaborating with the Information Management Coordinator and MEAL Team to maintain accurate protection databases and information management systems.
  • Conducting field visits to monitor the quality of implementation and ensuring that protection monitoring data is collected and analyzed effectively. 1
  • Supporting donor reporting by providing timely and accurate project progress updates. 1
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with relevant stakeholders, including government entities, UN agencies, and NGOs, and representing NRC in protection coordination forums. 1
  • Managing individual protection cases while maintaining confidentiality and consent protocols. 1
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by supervisors and technical leads.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in a relevant field and have at least three years of experience in protection programming. Technical expertise in protection risk-based programming is essential, along with a strong understanding of international standards and guiding principles related to protection. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to analyze both quantitative and qualitative data from various sources and have experience working in complex and volatile contexts, including protracted displacement situations. Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage teams across multiple locations are also required. Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory.

Educational Background:
A university degree in a relevant field is required for this position. This educational background should ideally include studies related to humanitarian assistance, social sciences, international relations, or a similar discipline that provides a solid foundation for understanding protection issues and programming.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of three years of relevant experience in protection programming, with a focus on protection risk-based programming. Experience in managing teams and working in challenging environments is crucial, as is familiarity with the South Sudan context and refugee programming.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the local context may be considered an asset but is not explicitly required.
