Job Overview:
The Laboratory and Diagnostics Support Officer (LDSO) will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the EpiC GHS project activities, particularly in the area of genomic surveillance and public health emergency response. This position is integral to the EpiC project, which aims to strengthen capacities for the prevention, detection, and response to public health emergencies. The LDSO will work closely with the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) and will be responsible for providing technical and operational assistance, ensuring that the project activities align with national priorities and strategies. The role involves supporting the pilot implementation of HPAI genomic surveillance, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring readiness for implementation. Duties and Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of the LDSO include providing technical assistance in the pilot implementation of HPAI genomic surveillance, reviewing and updating technical documents for the development of a One Health Molecular Laboratory Surveillance and Response Framework, and contributing to the technical development of a comprehensive pilot framework. The LDSO will design and conduct laboratory workshops and training programs, prepare technical reports, and maintain records of project outputs. Additionally, the officer will participate in laboratory assessments, provide operational support for outbreak investigations, and contribute to field activity reporting. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Laboratory Science, Molecular Biology, Public Health, or a related field. A valid professional license, such as a Registered Medical Technologist, is required where applicable. The position requires at least 3 years of experience in clinical, public health, or diagnostic laboratory settings, with a minimum of 6 months of molecular diagnostic experience in genomic sequencing being an advantage. Strong leadership, management, and communication skills are essential, along with experience working with government officials, particularly in supporting strategy development and implementation plans.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Medical Technology, Laboratory Science, Molecular Biology, or Public Health.
