Job Overview:
The Section Head of the Radiation Safety and Monitoring Section is a pivotal role within the IAEA's Department of Nuclear Safety and Security. This position involves managing and leading a specialized team focused on radiation safety, ensuring that the IAEA's policies and programs are effectively implemented. The Section Head will be responsible for developing and executing strategies related to radiation protection for workers, patients, and the public, in accordance with the latest scientific knowledge. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, managerial skills, and the ability to work in a multilateral environment, addressing diverse views and finding practical solutions to complex issues. The Section Head will also be tasked with promoting the IAEA's vision and mission, facilitating cooperation with other organizations, and ensuring that the Section's activities align with the needs of Member States.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Section Head will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including: planning, initiating, developing, implementing, coordinating, and supervising the activities of the Radiation Safety and Monitoring Section; providing technical and managerial leadership; managing the development, review, and publication processes for radiation safety standards; analyzing information to enhance the IAEA's radiation safety program; leading initiatives to support Member States in applying safety standards; and contributing to divisional and agency-wide initiatives to enhance coherence and synergy across related programs. The role also involves fostering teamwork, promoting good performance, and creating an environment conducive to staff development and knowledge sharing.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in engineering or physical/nuclear/radiological sciences. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in these fields, combined with two years of relevant work experience, may be considered in lieu of the advanced degree. Additionally, a minimum of 10 years of experience in radiation safety is required, with at least eight years at a managerial level focused on standard setting. Candidates should have broad experience in the field, proven management skills, and extensive international experience in developing and applying safety standards. Experience in multilateral environments or with regulatory bodies is considered a strong asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in engineering or physical/nuclear/radiological sciences. A first-level university degree in these areas, along with two years of relevant work experience, may also be acceptable. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of radiation safety and the technical aspects of the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in radiation safety, with at least eight years in a managerial capacity. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing professional and support staff, as well as extensive experience working at the international level in the development and application of safety standards. Experience in multilateral environments or with competent authorities for radiation protection is highly desirable.

Languages:
Excellent oral and written command of English is mandatory. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's profile.

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $103,165, along with a variable post adjustment currently amounting to US $55,91
