Job Overview: The Junior Graphic Designer will play a crucial role in supporting the local communications team and the core team at UN-Habitat Brazil. This position involves designing visual identities for various initiatives, projects, campaigns, and events, ensuring alignment with UN-Habitat’s branding guidelines. The designer will be responsible for creating graphic materials for digital platforms, including social media content, publications, reports, and promotional materials. The role requires collaboration with the communications team to produce visual content for campaigns and events, contributing creative ideas during brainstorming sessions, and ensuring compliance with branding guidelines. The designer will also maintain an organized archive of multimedia and design files, ensuring accessibility for the communications team and adherence to UN-Habitat’s corporate identity standards.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Junior Graphic Designer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Supporting the design and visual production of materials for various initiatives, ensuring they align with UN-Habitat’s branding.
Designing and laying out publications, reports, and editorial products.
Creating graphic materials for digital platforms, including social media cards, videos, animations, and infographics.
Assisting in video production and editing, including subtitling and motion graphics.
Designing informative communication products such as brochures, banners, and other materials.
Developing promotional materials like posters, business cards, and labels.
Supporting photo editing and image optimization for digital content.
Contributing to illustration and layout tasks for internal and external materials.
Maintaining an organized archive of multimedia and design files. 1
Ensuring all design outputs are consistent with UN-Habitat’s corporate identity and visual standards. 1
Assisting in the visual adaptation of communication materials for different audiences. 1
Collaborating with the communications team to produce visual content for campaigns and advocacy initiatives. 1
Participating in brainstorming sessions for campaigns and communication strategies. 1
Ensuring compliance with HQ and Regional Office guidelines for branding and design materials. 1
Completing all required training courses, including the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security course BSAFE from UNDSS, during the first month of employment.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field. Alternatively, candidates with an additional three years of relevant technical experience beyond the educational requirement will also be considered. A minimum of three years of progressively responsible graphic design experience in Brazil is required, with previous on-site experience in communications in Alagoas being desirable. Experience in graphic design for development or non-profit projects, as well as familiarity with urban issues and the global urban agenda, is also preferred. Previous experience within the UN System or other international agencies is a plus.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field is required. Candidates with additional relevant technical experience may also qualify for the position. The educational background should demonstrate a solid foundation in design principles and communication strategies.
Experience: Candidates should have at least three years of progressively responsible graphic design experience, particularly in Brazil. Experience in communications within Alagoas is desirable, as is experience in producing content for social media. Familiarity with urban issues and the UN’s global urban agenda is also beneficial. Previous experience within the UN System or other international organizations is preferred.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is required for this position, as it is the primary working language in Brazil. Working knowledge of Spanish and/or English is desirable, given that English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, and Spanish is used in the Regional Office.
Additional Notes: The position is expected to last for six months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funds. The consultant will be paid a monthly allowance upon approval of their activities report by the Head of Brazil Office. The appointment is on a local basis, and only nationals from Brazil or candidates with a permanent visa in Brazil may apply. The consultant must be available for travel related to the activities in the country, with travel coordinated and financed by UN-Habitat according to UN travel rules.
