Job Overview: The Protection Officer role is a critical position under a Danida-funded initiative aimed at enhancing gender-responsive protection programming and promoting women's meaningful participation in Jordan. The officer will support the design and implementation of a focused initiative that strengthens women's involvement in protection interventions, decision-making processes, and advocacy efforts. This role is integral to advancing the Women, Peace and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (WPS) agenda through capacity building, partnerships, and engagement with various stakeholders, including government institutions and civil society. The officer will report directly to the Area Manager and will be responsible for ensuring the effective execution of the pilot initiative, which includes developing a comprehensive national gender analysis, enhancing thematic protection monitoring, and promoting women's participation in economic life and decision-making processes.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Protection Officer will undertake a variety of duties and responsibilities, including:
Supporting the design and implementation of a pilot initiative aimed at enhancing women's participation in protection programming and local decision-making processes.
Coordinating closely with selected local NGO partners to ensure quality and timely implementation of initiatives.
Facilitating inclusive engagement with women, particularly marginalized groups, to ensure safe and meaningful participation in programming.
Documenting lessons learned and best practices for potential scale-up of initiatives.
Designing and delivering capacity-building activities focused on the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda for governmental entities and national NGO partners.
Facilitating trainings, workshops, and coaching sessions tailored to various stakeholders.
Providing ongoing technical support and mentoring to trained entities to ensure practical application of learned principles.
Promoting the institutionalization of WPS principles within partner and government systems.
Engaging with government entities, civil society organizations, women's networks, and community leaders to foster collaboration. 1
Contributing to the development and dissemination of advocacy messages that promote women's participation and rights. 1
Supporting dialogue and coordination among stakeholders to advance the WPS agenda in Jordan. 1
Representing the organization in relevant coordination forums as needed. 1
Supporting donor reporting, internal updates, and documentation of results. 1
Overseeing operational and logistical arrangements, including initiating purchase requests and coordinating with the supply chain for capacity-building activities.
Required Qualifications: To be considered for the Protection Officer position, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as International Relations, Development Studies, or a business-related discipline combined with additional relevant experience.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in protection, gender, or GBV programming.
Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering capacity-building initiatives and trainings.
Experience working on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) or women's participation initiatives.
A strong understanding of gender equality and women's rights, as well as GBV prevention and protection principles.
Proven experience working with government stakeholders and national NGOs.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster communication and negotiation among local stakeholders.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to maintain a regular presence at project sites and work during irregular hours.
Proficiency in writing reports in a timely manner.
Educational Background: Candidates applying for the Protection Officer position should have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area, such as International Relations or Development Studies. Alternatively, a business-related university degree combined with additional relevant experience will also be considered acceptable. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in protection, gender, or GBV programming. Candidates should have a proven track record of designing and delivering capacity-building initiatives and trainings, as well as experience working on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) or women's participation initiatives. This level of experience is crucial for the successful execution of the responsibilities associated with the role, particularly in engaging with various stakeholders and implementing effective protection programming.
