Job Overview: The Programme Associate (G-6) role at UNICEF involves providing a broad range of administrative, operational, and procedural support to facilitate the delivery of programs aimed at advancing the rights and well-being of children, particularly the most vulnerable. Under the supervision of the Planning and Partnerships Officer, the incumbent will work closely with three Programme Assistants and will be responsible for ensuring the timely and effective execution of tasks aligned with UNICEF's rules and regulations. This position requires regular liaison with multiple units within the office, including Programme sections, Operations, Finance, and Supply, as well as external partners such as government ministries, NGOs, and donors. The role encompasses project management, data management, budget tracking, reporting, communication, knowledge sharing, and event organization, all while promoting the use of digital systems to enhance efficiency and streamline tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme Associate will support overall project planning, execution, and monitoring for assigned initiatives. Responsibilities include establishing and operationalizing implementing partnership management functions, coordinating risk assessments, ensuring timely processing of funding requests, monitoring budget allocations and expenditures, and contributing to grant management. The incumbent will also collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data, generate reports and dashboards, and support the application of digital tools for data synthesis. Additionally, the role involves drafting communication materials, maintaining document repositories, supporting capacity development activities, and adapting to shifting program needs during emergencies or re-prioritization events.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have a minimum of six years of administrative or clerical work experience with secondary education. A Bachelor’s degree in social science or a relevant field is preferred, which reduces the required work experience to three years. An advanced university degree (MA) in a relevant field requires at least one year of administrative experience. Relevant experience in a UN system agency is considered an asset. Candidates must demonstrate strong organizational, planning, and prioritizing skills, along with a high sense of confidentiality and good judgment.
Educational Background: Completion of secondary education is required, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to the work of the organization. A Bachelor’s degree in social science or a relevant field is preferred, and an advanced degree may substitute for additional work experience requirements.
Experience: A minimum of six years of administrative or clerical work experience is required for candidates with secondary education. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree must have at least three years of experience, while those with a Master’s degree need a minimum of one year of experience. Experience in programme support functions and within a UN agency is advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset.
