Job Overview:
The Environmental Health (EH)/WASH Coordinator plays a crucial role in overseeing the implementation of all Environmental Health and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programming supported by the IRC in the R1 region of South Kordofan. This position is responsible for providing technical and strategic leadership to ensure that the EH/WASH programming meets high-quality standards and effectively addresses the immediate needs of the affected populations. The coordinator will be based in Kamuleila and will be required to travel regularly to other field sites. Reporting to the Sudan West director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Deputy Director of Programs (DDP), the coordinator will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of programs that align with the IRC's mission and the needs of the communities served.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The EH/WASH Coordinator will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: coordinating with the DDP to develop and implement responses to assessed EH/WASH needs in accordance with the Sudan Strategic Action Plan (SAP); overseeing the technical aspects of EH/WASH program implementation; ensuring timely and professional execution of all projects according to established objectives and donor requirements; leading the EH/WASH teams in developing and monitoring work plans; designing and improving technical approaches and protocols; supporting teams in technical designs and documentation for infrastructure and hygiene activities; managing local implementing partners; leading emergency responses during crises; assessing and addressing the professional development needs of national WASH staff; ensuring timely submission of reports and proposals; managing budgets; implementing monitoring and evaluation systems; mentoring and supporting EH/WASH managers; establishing contacts with relevant NGOs and ministries; representing the IRC in meetings; and performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess proven technical skills with a university degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in Environmental Health, WASH, Civil Engineering, or a related field is required, along with at least 3 years of experience in a humanitarian setting, such as refugee camps or emergency response. Demonstrated experience in the technical design of water supply systems, sanitation infrastructure, wastewater and sewerage systems, and health care waste management systems is essential. Strong project planning, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are necessary, along with good written and verbal skills in English. While Arabic is not mandatory, it would be a distinct advantage. Candidates should also exhibit strong leadership and management skills, be proactive members of the senior management team, and possess the ability to function effectively in complex work environments.

Educational Background:
A university degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the technical aspects of Environmental Health and WASH programming, as well as the ability to design and implement effective interventions in challenging environments.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in Environmental Health, WASH, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have at least 3 years of experience working in humanitarian settings, such as refugee camps or during emergency responses. This level of experience is crucial for understanding the complexities and challenges associated with delivering effective programs in crisis-affected areas.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, with strong written and verbal communication skills. While Arabic is not required, having knowledge of the language would be considered a distinct advantage, as it may facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The position is based in Kamuleila, where accommodation is provided by the IRC. All IRC sites have off-grid electricity and internet access, while food is the individual's responsibility.
