Job Overview:
The internship program at the IAEA is designed to provide students and recent graduates with practical work experience that aligns with their academic studies or professional interests. Interns will gain exposure to the operations of the IAEA and the broader United Nations system. The internship typically lasts between three months and one year, with a focus on enhancing the IAEA's programs through the contributions of qualified students in various professional fields. Interns will specifically support the Division of Energy Planning, Information and Knowledge Management, which is responsible for enhancing capacities in energy and nuclear power planning, managing nuclear knowledge, and providing information services related to nuclear science and technology. The main purpose of this internship is to assist in the development of analytical tools and case studies aimed at exploring optimal pathways to achieving net-zero carbon emissions, particularly through the lens of nuclear energy's role in sustainable energy development and climate change mitigation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be expected to assist in quantitative modeling of net-zero pathways, providing analytical insights into the cost-optimal role of nuclear energy. They will also support technical reporting and data visualization efforts, as well as assist in stakeholder management and outreach activities. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment. Interns will engage in various projects that contribute to the IAEA's mission and will have the opportunity to present their findings and analyses to relevant stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Engineering, Economics, or a related field. Strong analytical skills and familiarity with quantitative methods are essential for this position. Additionally, the ability to manage data using spreadsheets or other databases is crucial. Experience in optimization, simulation, and economic analysis is considered an asset, as is familiarity with Nuclear Energy System Assessment Methods, Nuclear Energy System Economic Analysis, or Nuclear Energy System Modelling and Analysis.

Educational Background:
Applicants must be at least 20 years old and have completed a minimum of three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree. Candidates may apply up to one year after completing their bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degree. It is important that candidates have not previously participated in the IAEA's internship program.

Experience:
The internship is targeted at individuals who are in the later stages of their academic studies or who have recently graduated. While specific prior experience is not mandatory, familiarity with the fields of engineering, economics, or nuclear energy systems will be beneficial. Interns should be prepared to engage in quantitative analyses and contribute to the development of analytical tools.

Languages:
Good written and spoken English is essential for this position. Fluency in any other IAEA official language, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish, or Russian, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.
