Job Overview:
The Project Coordinator for Climate Change and Gender Integration will work under the direct supervision of the UN-Habitat Head of Office in Lao PDR. The role involves liaising with government entities, UN agencies, and development partners to support the implementation of ongoing projects related to climate change adaptation and gender integration. The candidate will be responsible for conducting research, preparing technical documents, organizing workshops, and monitoring project progress. The position aims to enhance disaster risk management and climate resilience by developing tools for vulnerability and risk assessment, ensuring that gender considerations are integrated into climate change assessments and adaptation planning. The coordinator will also engage with various stakeholders to promote gender inclusion in adaptation efforts and support capacity-building activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Project Coordinator include:
  • Participating in the development of indicators and methodologies for data collection that incorporate gender and ethno-linguistic considerations into climate change assessments.
  • Acting as the focal point for gender integration within vulnerability assessments and capacity-building activities.
  • Coordinating with internal and external partners to mainstream gender in adaptation planning, including provincial plans.
  • Supporting capacity-building initiatives on gender-sensitive data collection and inclusive adaptation strategies.
  • Engaging with government, development partners, and women's unions to enhance women's participation in climate adaptation efforts.
  • Guiding the collection and analysis of sex-disaggregated data and formulating gender-specific targets.
  • Liaising with partners and providing inputs in meetings with development partners and government counterparts.
  • Coordinating project missions and meetings at various levels.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess at least 4 years of relevant professional experience in desk research, project coordination, and stakeholder consultations. Familiarity with climate change vulnerability assessments and experience working in Lao PDR are preferred. The role requires strong analytical skills, the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, and a commitment to gender equality in climate action. Candidates should demonstrate adaptability, creativity, and professionalism in their work.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required, typically a degree in environmental science, social sciences, urban planning, or a related field. Advanced degrees may be preferred, particularly those focusing on climate change, gender studies, or sustainable development.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 4 years of professional experience in project management, research, and coordination of activities involving multiple stakeholders. Experience in climate change adaptation and gender integration is highly desirable, particularly within the context of Lao PDR.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Lao or other local languages is considered an asset, as it can facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance project effectiveness.
