Job Overview: The Communications Associate will play a crucial role in supporting the UNFPA Pakistan communications team, which aims to achieve key goals in advocacy, program communications, and fostering a strong communications culture. The position involves developing content for various platforms, managing digital initiatives, and supporting outreach and awareness campaigns. The Associate will work closely with the Communications Analyst to implement the Country Office Advocacy and Communication Strategy, ensuring that UNFPA's impact is effectively communicated to the public and stakeholders. This role is vital for enhancing the visibility of UNFPA's work and engaging with diverse audiences through storytelling, social media, and other communication channels.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Associate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Content Development: Creating compelling human-interest stories that highlight the impact of UNFPA's work, including the collection of high-quality photographs.
Digital Management: Supporting the management of UNFPA's website and social media accounts to ensure consistent and engaging content.
Advocacy and Media Management: Assisting in media initiatives, including monitoring media coverage, drafting press releases, and developing messaging for communication products.
Campaign Support: Supporting the execution of local campaigns, such as the 16 Days of Activism and World Population Day, which involves liaising with media production firms and developing innovative concepts.
Design Support: Utilizing Canva to produce in-house designs for banners, posts, infographics, and social media reels.
Collaboration: Working collaboratively with team members and external partners to enhance communication efforts and achieve strategic goals.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Communications Associate position should possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a proven ability to create engaging content for diverse audiences. Familiarity with digital media platforms and experience in managing social media accounts are essential. The ideal candidate should also have a good understanding of advocacy and media relations, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in design tools such as Canva is highly desirable, along with a creative mindset for developing innovative communication strategies.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field is required for this position. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized training in communications or media will be given preference. A strong academic background that demonstrates an understanding of population and development issues, particularly in the context of sexual and reproductive health, is also beneficial.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in communications, public relations, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of advocacy and public health, is highly valued. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of successful content creation and campaign management, as well as familiarity with the challenges and opportunities in the field of sexual and reproductive health.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within UNFPA and for external outreach. Proficiency in Urdu or other local languages is considered an asset, as it enhances the ability to engage with local communities and stakeholders effectively.
Additional Notes: This is a national UNV assignment, meaning that the selected candidate will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The UN Volunteer will receive a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of PKR 183,920 per month to cover housing, utilities, and living expenses. Additionally, the position includes life health and permanent disability insurance, health insurance for up to three dependents, and a final repatriation allowance if applicable. The role is full-time and requires a commitment to the mission and values of UNFPA.
