Job Overview: The Senior Mining Specialist position at the World Bank involves working within the Infrastructure Vice Presidency (INF VPU) and the Metals and Minerals Policy and Regulation Team (KIMPR). Duties and Responsibilities: The duties of the Senior Mining Specialist include coordinating WBG support for India's National Critical Minerals Mission, aligning analytical work and investment facilitation across various segments of priority value chains. In Pakistan, the specialist will support a major copper-gold project and the development of the Tethyan Belt, coordinating upstream policy and regulatory assistance. The role also involves working with teams in Papua New Guinea to strengthen mining sector institutions and preparing for potential country compacts in Indonesia. General responsibilities include implementing the M&M department’s global strategy, providing expert policy advice, collaborating with the Metals and Minerals Solutions and Impact team, and leading innovative approaches to mining projects. The specialist will also conduct outreach to stakeholders and maintain internal relationships with regional management units.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of a master’s degree in mining, engineering, public policy, economics, or a related discipline, or a master’s degree in finance or project management with relevant mining project transaction experience. Additionally, at least 8 years of relevant experience in the mining sector is required, with significant exposure to mining sector policy, regulation, and institutional reform. The ability to coordinate complex, multi-country programs and work effectively across World Bank Group institutions is essential. Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills are necessary, along with the ability to manage competing priorities across time zones.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a master’s degree or higher in fields such as mining, engineering, public policy, economics, or a related discipline. Alternatively, a master’s degree in finance or project management with demonstrated experience in mining project transactions is acceptable. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of the mining sector and effectively advising government clients.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in the mining sector. Candidates should have significant experience in mining sector policy, regulation, and institutional reform, ideally combined with exposure to large-scale mining investments and transactions.
