Job Overview:
The Civil Engineering Technician position at CERN involves providing technical support to the Civil Engineering section within the Site Asset Management group. The role is crucial for contributing to a variety of surface and underground infrastructure projects. The technician will be responsible for implementing design specifications on-site, which includes overseeing civil engineering works such as roads, networks, buildings, and technical galleries. The role requires regular monitoring of safety rules on work sites, quality control of contractors' work, and ensuring that all activities align with best practices and technical specifications. Additionally, the technician will manage budget follow-ups, including checking quotes, launching orders, and validating final measurements established by contractors, utilizing CERN's computer tools for these tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Civil Engineering Technician will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: managing work requests related to civil engineering, roads, networks, and buildings; overseeing the construction and renovation of surface buildings and underground structures; coordinating various technical and secondary trades; ensuring compliance with safety regulations on work sites; conducting quality control of contractors' daily work; monitoring the execution of works to align with technical specifications; managing budget follow-ups, including the validation of quotes and final measurements; and utilizing CERN's computer tools for project management. The technician will also be involved in planning, organizing, and coordinating various trades, ensuring that all work is executed efficiently and effectively.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess initial experience in the construction, maintenance, or renovation of buildings or underground structures. A basic understanding of site measurements and cost control is essential, along with an awareness of quality standards and site safety rules. The role requires evidence-based problem-solving skills, proactivity, teamwork, collaboration, flexibility, and a commitment to continuous learning. Candidates must also demonstrate proficiency in spoken and written English or French, with a willingness to learn the other language.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a general secondary education diploma. Candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and should have a maximum of two years of professional experience in Civil Engineering or a related field since graduation. It is important to note that applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree are not eligible for this position.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a maximum of two years of professional experience in the field of Civil Engineering or a related area. This experience should be gained after graduation, ensuring that the candidate is familiar with the practical aspects of civil engineering work and has had exposure to the construction and renovation processes.

Languages:
Proficiency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory for this position. Candidates are expected to have a commitment to learning the other language, which is essential for effective communication within the diverse environment at CERN.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the position is fully onsite. The target start date for this role is August 1, 202

• Additionally, the position involves work in radiation areas and interventions in underground installations, and candidates must possess a valid driving license. The compensation includes a monthly stipend of 4687 Swiss Francs (tax-free), 30 days of paid leave per year, comprehensive health insurance coverage, family allowances, and a relocation package depending on individual circumstances. On-the-job and formal training, including language classes, will also be provided.
