Job Overview:

The intern will work under the supervision of the Head of Office or a designated officer, closely collaborating with UN GGCE personnel. The primary focus will be on supporting the development of an e-learning course on geodesy, which involves structuring and adapting existing content for online learning. The intern will also assist in converting technical materials into learner-centered e-learning modules, ensuring that the content is clear, coherent, and appropriately challenging for learners. This role will provide valuable insights into the processes of course development and the integration of educational technologies in a global context.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting the development of an e-learning course on geodesy by organizing and adapting existing UN GGCE content.
  • Assisting in the conversion of technical materials such as reports and presentations into interactive e-learning modules.
  • Utilizing Articulate 360 to create engaging learning elements, including quizzes and visuals.
  • Helping to prepare course outlines, learning objectives, and storyboards that align with adult learning principles.
  • Supporting the integration of course content on platforms like Moodle or Articulate Cloud.
  • Conducting testing and quality assurance of e-learning modules to ensure they are functional and accessible.
  • Collaborating with technical experts to ensure scientific accuracy and alignment with UN GGCE objectives.
  • Contributing to the preparation of supporting materials for courses, including participant guidance notes.
  • Assisting with coordination and documentation related to course development meetings and timelines. 1
  • Performing other related duties as assigned to support UN GGCE capacity development and digital learning activities.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program in instructional design, e-learning, educational technology, multimedia design, digital communications, geodesy, geospatial sciences, GIS, geography, or a related field; or (b) Be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree) in any of the aforementioned fields. Knowledge of a Moodle-based Learning Management System is desirable, as well as proficiency in content authoring tools like Articulate 360 and media design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud or Canva.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes either a graduate degree or a bachelor's degree in fields related to instructional design, e-learning, educational technology, multimedia design, digital communications, geodesy, geospatial sciences, GIS, or geography. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the principles of course development and e-learning.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not required for this internship, applicants should have a field of study that closely relates to the internship's focus. This means that candidates should have relevant academic experience that prepares them for the tasks they will undertake during the internship.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered desirable and may enhance the candidate's application.
