Job Overview:
The (Senior) Investment Officer position at IFC in Cairo, Egypt, is a pivotal role within the Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services (MAS) Africa Department. The selected candidate will be responsible for providing expertise in the manufacturing sectors, specifically focusing on fertilizers, construction materials, chemicals, and light manufacturing. This role requires a strong background in sourcing, structuring, negotiating, and executing investment transactions, as well as managing portfolios effectively. The Investment Officer will play a crucial role in developing strategies to enhance IFC’s business in Africa's manufacturing sectors, while also leading day-to-day transaction management and portfolio oversight. The position demands a proactive approach to identifying investment opportunities and structuring financial solutions that align with the needs of the manufacturing and services sectors in Egypt and North Africa.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the (Senior) Investment Officer include:
  • Developing a robust pipeline of high-quality investment opportunities through proactive business development and leveraging sector and country knowledge.
  • Evaluating, structuring, negotiating, and closing new transactions, including portfolio restructurings and capital increases.
  • Leading the negotiation of term sheets and legal documentation, employing strong negotiation skills to resolve complex transaction challenges.
  • Communicating and presenting credit analyses and investment proposals clearly and succinctly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Designing innovative financial structures for complex transactions involving debt, equity, and mezzanine investments, and overseeing their implementation.
  • Providing exceptional client service throughout the project cycle, ensuring high-quality work and quality control.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with regional clients, businesses, banking and multilateral partners, and government officials to foster sector development and investment opportunities.
  • Assisting in the formulation and monitoring of IFC’s strategy in the manufacturing sectors across Africa, in collaboration with industry and regional departments.
  • Coordinating with social, environmental, governance, and technical assistance teams to enhance client value and achieve sustainable development impacts. 1
  • Offering thought leadership within the team, particularly in the manufacturing, chemicals, and fertilizers sectors. 1
  • Mentoring and developing junior staff to build capacity within the organization.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the (Senior) Investment Officer position must possess the following qualifications:
  • An advanced degree (Master’s) in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 13 to 15 years of relevant work experience in private equity, commercial banking, investment banking, or international financial institutions with a strong presence in emerging markets.
  • Proven experience in leading investment transactions, with a successful track record in developing client relationships and effectively addressing client needs.
  • Strong expertise in the manufacturing, chemicals, and fertilizers sectors, with relevant experience in originating and structuring transactions in these areas.
  • A robust network in Egypt and North Africa is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated business development skills and sound judgment in identifying potential business partners and investment opportunities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in Arabic is a plus.
  • A commitment to IFC’s mission of promoting sustainable private sector development.
  • Strong financial and credit skills, with the ability to structure various financial instruments (debt, equity, mezzanine). 1
  • A strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability, with the ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines under pressure. 1
  • Willingness to travel extensively and flexibility regarding geographic assignments.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for the (Senior) Investment Officer position includes an advanced degree, specifically a Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
