Job Overview:
The Restructuring Lawyer position is situated within the EIB's Legal Directorate, specifically in the Operational Policy, Mandates and Non-EU Operations Department, under the Restructuring, Funds and Venture Debt Division. The role requires a strong legal background, particularly in debt restructuring and fund investments, both within and outside the European Union. The successful candidate will provide legal support to various operational directorates, ensuring compliance with legal standards and facilitating the execution of lending and financing operations. This position emphasizes independent work, legal documentation drafting, and negotiation, with a focus on restructuring and insolvency-related matters. The lawyer will also be responsible for managing contracts, liaising with external counsel, and contributing to the development of legal policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Restructuring Lawyer will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: drafting and negotiating legal documentation for lending and financing operations; advising on structuring and legal advisory support; managing contracts and negotiations; preparing terms of reference for external counsel and supervising their work; conducting legal research on relevant legal matters; maintaining relationships within the Bank and representing the EIB externally; and proactively keeping up-to-date with legal developments in legislation and jurisprudence. The role also involves preparing reports on completed transactions and making recommendations for new methods and procedures within the division's area of expertise.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in law, equivalent to at least a Bachelor’s degree, with a preference for a Master’s level qualification. A qualification in law from an EU Member State is preferred. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in bank lending, either from a reputable law firm or an in-house legal department of a financial institution or public institution, is required. Solid experience in bank lending and finance, along with experience in restructuring, is advantageous. Candidates should also have significant experience in drafting and negotiating finance documentation in English, with experience in French and/or German considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in law, with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and preferably a Master’s degree. A qualification in law from an EU Member State is highly desirable, as it aligns with the legal framework and operational context of the EIB.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in the field of bank lending. This experience should ideally be gained in a law firm of international repute or within the in-house legal department of a financial institution or public institution. Candidates with solid experience in bank lending and finance, as well as those with experience in restructuring, will be given preference.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is essential, and candidates should also have a good command of French. While a good command of French is not explicitly required for hire, it is necessary for future career development within the EIB, as both English and French are the official working languages. Knowledge of other EU languages will be considered an advantage. Proficiency is defined as achieving level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).

This is a full-time position at grade 5, offering a permanent contract. The EIB provides relocation support for successful candidates. Panel interviews are anticipated to take place in May/June 202
