Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The ITER Organization is a prominent international collaboration aimed at advancing fusion energy research. Established to facilitate the development of fusion as a viable energy source, ITER is a project that brings together scientists and engineers from around the world. The organization operates with a mission to demonstrate the feasibility of fusion energy for peaceful purposes, and it is located in France. The ITER project is a significant undertaking involving multiple countries and thousands of employees, all working towards a common goal of sustainable energy. The organization emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and excellence in its operations, making it a key player in the global energy landscape.

Job Overview:
The Postgraduate Program at the ITER Organization is designed for early-career professionals, particularly recent graduates, to gain practical experience in a dynamic and international environment. This program offers an opportunity to contribute to significant work in the field of fusion energy, specifically within the Engineering Services Department. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be involved in various aspects of the engineering life cycle, including specification, design, qualification, procurement, installation, integration, commissioning, and maintenance. The role is tailored for individuals looking to enhance their technical skills and professional development through hands-on responsibilities and teamwork. You will work under the guidance of experienced managers and contribute to the ambitious goals of the ITER project, which aims to revolutionize energy production through fusion technology.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Postgraduate Mechanical Engineer include contributing to the delivery of mechanical designs and supporting engineering activities across various scopes, such as structures, cooling systems, buildings, remote handling, and rotating machinery. You will perform mechanical and stress analyses, as well as thermal and structural analyses, to ensure the integrity and functionality of engineering designs. Additionally, you will assist in preparing technical specifications for procurement, fabrication, qualification, and testing of equipment, and follow up on manufacturing processes, including qualification tests and final acceptance tests. You will also provide support to domestic agencies, contractors, and ITER groups in engineering, research and development, interface control, and procurement tasks. The role may require you to issue inspection and observation reports and undertake other duties as necessary to support the project objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering, or a related discipline. Essential qualifications include a solid understanding of mechanics of materials, structural analysis, structural dynamics, and engineering mathematics. Familiarity with manufacturing techniques and the ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships are also crucial. Desirable qualifications include experience in analyzing, designing, manufacturing, testing, installing, and maintaining mechanical components and systems. Knowledge of industry codes and standards, as well as proficiency in relevant software tools for mechanical engineering and CAD activities, is highly beneficial.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field. This advanced degree should provide a strong foundation in engineering principles, analytical skills, and technical knowledge necessary for the role. Candidates with equivalent qualifications or relevant experience may also be considered, provided they demonstrate the requisite skills and knowledge.

Experience:
The position is aimed at early-career professionals, meaning that candidates are expected to have some level of experience, which may include internships or relevant academic projects. While extensive professional experience is not required, familiarity with practical applications of engineering concepts and a proactive approach to learning and development are essential. Candidates should be prepared to engage in hands-on work and demonstrate a willingness to grow within the organization.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Strong communication skills are essential for collaboration within the international team at ITER. While not required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if it facilitates communication with diverse stakeholders involved in the project.

Additional Notes:
