Job Overview:
The Language Technology Assistant position is situated within the Conference and Language Services (CLS) of the OSCE Secretariat. This role is pivotal in supporting the technical and organizational aspects of computer-assisted translation (CAT) and machine/AI translation tools, as well as terminology-related work. The assistant will provide guidance to language assistants, freelance translators, and editors, ensuring the effective use of language technology tools. The position requires a proactive approach to improving workflows and maintaining the integrity of terminology databases, contributing significantly to the overall objectives of the Language Services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks under the supervision of the Chief Linguist, including: supporting and coordinating the CAT and machine/AI translation tools work of Language Assistants; reviewing and proposing improvements to workflows related to CAT and machine/AI translation; administering the ticketing process with external language technology providers; coordinating with ICT for updates and technical aspects of language technology tools; providing support and advice on technical aspects of terminology work; implementing and coordinating terminology workflows, including managing term bases; acting as a focal point for requests regarding term base entries; and maintaining the integrity and updates of term bases and related files. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed secondary education and possess a minimum of 4 years of working experience in language technology. A university degree in a relevant field may substitute for up to two years of experience. Proficiency in using computer-assisted translation (CAT), machine/AI translation, and terminology tools is essential, with excellent knowledge of Trados Studio and MultiTerm. Candidates should also be familiar with the latest developments in CAT and terminology tools, possess strong information collection skills, and have experience in coordinating the work of others. Teamwork skills and the ability to work with diverse cultural and political backgrounds are crucial.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a completed secondary education. A higher education degree in a relevant field is preferred and may be considered as a substitute for some work experience, specifically up to two years, to determine eligibility for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant working experience in language technology. Candidates with a university degree in a relevant field may have up to two years of this experience waived for eligibility purposes. Experience in coordinating the work of others is also necessary, indicating a level of leadership and collaborative skills.

Languages:
Professional fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills. A working knowledge of at least one other language from the OSCE region is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse linguistic contexts and contribute to the organization's multilingual environment.

Additional Notes:
The position is offered as a part-time contracted role under a local contract, with a general services job level (G4). The monthly remuneration is approximately EUR 2,000, subject to social security deductions, and OSCE salaries are exempt from taxation in Austria. Social benefits include participation in the Cigna medical insurance scheme and the OSCE Provident Fund. The appointment is typically made at Step 1 of the OSCE salary scale, with the possibility of starting at Step 3 in exceptional cases based on relevant experience or previous remuneration.
