Job Overview:
The Intern position at the UN-GGCE is designed to support the technical and analytical work of the Centre. The intern will engage in various projects that align with the Centre’s Framework Plan and Joint Development plan on Global Geodesy. This role involves assisting in the preparation of technical documents, conducting research on geodesy-related technologies, and supporting the analysis of the global geodesy supply chain. The intern will also help organize technical meetings and capacity-building activities, contributing to the overall mission of strengthening global geodesy. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Assisting in the preparation of technical and policy-oriented draft documents such as reports, background papers, and presentations for international meetings.
  • Conducting research on various geodesy-related technologies and methodologies, including GNSS, satellite-based positioning, Earth observation, GIS, and remote sensing.
  • Supporting analysis related to the global geodesy supply chain, focusing on ground observatories, data centers, and their integration into global frameworks.
  • Assisting in organizing technical meetings, seminars, and working groups related to geodesy and geospatial data sharing.
  • Supporting the implementation of projects aimed at enhancing global geodesy through improved collaboration among Member States and geodetic organizations.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to ensure the accuracy and coherence of technical content in alignment with UN-GGCE objectives.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the Head of Office or designated technical officer.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must have a field of study in geodesy, geospatial sciences/engineering, geomatics, Earth observation, geography, environmental sciences, geophysics, or a closely related discipline. They must meet one of the following requirements:
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent). A background in geodesy, geospatial sciences/engineering, geomatics, Earth observation, geography, environmental sciences, geophysics, or a closely related field is desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes enrollment in or completion of a graduate program or the final academic year of a first university degree program in relevant fields such as geodesy, geospatial sciences/engineering, geomatics, Earth observation, geography, environmental sciences, or geophysics. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the technical aspects of the work involved in the internship.
