Job Overview: The Manager, Trade Policy and Facilitation, will play a pivotal role within the Trade, Competition, and Business (TCB) Global Department of the WBG Prosperity Vice Presidency. This position is responsible for leading the unit's global engagement on trade policy and facilitation, ensuring the delivery of high-quality analytics and evidence-based guidance. The Manager will champion innovations in trade policy, collaborate with regional teams to provide technical inputs, and communicate effectively with various stakeholders. The role also involves developing a strategic vision for the unit, managing knowledge dissemination, and leading talent management efforts within the team. The Manager will report to the WBG Director, TCB, and will be instrumental in achieving the WBG's mission and goals, particularly in creating more and better jobs and supporting sustainableeconomic growth.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Manager will oversee several key functions, including:
Thought Leadership, Delivery, and Communication: Leading global engagement on trade policy, delivering analytics and guidance, championing innovations, collaborating with regional teams, and effectively communicating the trade agenda to diverse audiences.
Strategy and Knowledge Management: Developing and implementing a vision for the unit, producing and disseminating trade-related knowledge, ensuring alignment between knowledge generation and solutions delivery, and designing training programs.
People/Talent Management: Modeling leadership values, inspiring technical excellence, advising staff on performance and career planning, and participating in talent management processes.
Resource Management: Deciding on resource allocation for maximum impact, ensuring compliance with internal controls, and delivering quality outputs within budgetary constraints.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in a relevant field such as economics, trade policy, or international development, along with at least 12 years of relevant experience in progressively responsible positions. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills are essential, including experience managing diverse teams and navigating institutional change. Candidates should have deep knowledge of WBG operations, strong technical expertise in trade policy, and excellent communication skills for engaging with senior stakeholders and external partners.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in economics, trade policy, international development, or related social sciences is required, with a Ph.D. preferred. This educational background should provide a strong foundation for understanding complex trade issues and developing effective policies and solutions.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience, with a proven track record in positions of increasing complexity and responsibility. Experience in managing multi-location teams and delivering complex operations and policy dialogue across various regions and institutional settings is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. While no additional languages are specified as preferred, proficiency in other languages may enhance a candidate's profile and ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
